Going custom

hey I've been hanging around the site for a while, and then it went down. So i see the forum is back up, so i'll be researching.

My 99 Si is in storage for the winter, but starting in Feb when I have a little bit of extra dough I wanna do a custom turbo. I already have I/H/E clutch, VAFC, and an NX Nitrous System.

I think I want to convert my NX system to the N-TERCOOLER setup so I can cool the intake charge more with the nitrous. Cool eh?

I will sell my header, CAI, and VAFC to buy turbo parts. I as far as I know, I just need a turbo, turbo manifold, exhaust, injectors and Hondata (and BOV, wastegate). I know someone that can custom weld me pipes. Oh yeah and I wanted to find a Starion intercooler

I'm going to college and I don't make a lot of money, but I understand I cannot skip on some of this stuff.

I don't have a built motor so until I start making some real loot I wanna just keep boost at 6psi. I was thinking the 14B turbo. Good, cheap, and easy to find. What do you all think?

My goal is to be somewhere in the 14's without pushing the limits too hard. 14B?

14b should be ok with a B16a... you would get the same effects as a T-25 on a ZC.. Basically Fast spool.. and maybe a little bit of drowing out at the top end.. but should be to bad. Plus your going to gain alot of torque.

I would keep your AFC for fuel managment.. everyone is doing the dsm 450cc injector hack with this unit.. it works really well.

You bet, the T3 from the 2.3l ford is a great turbo.. pretty large too. But you will need to do some modifcations to the exhaust outlet housing, since it will point directly towards the block, or the radiator!

How come? well the 16g isnt a factory turbo.. So that means you probably wouldnt find one in the junkyard. The 16g is a DSM Upgrade, and New they cost around 550 bucks, and used ones range from $350-400.

Very true that this turbo would probably be good for this application. But if your spending that kind of money you are better off working with a straight T3/T4.

where can i find an adapter plate for an hf manifold thats bolts a t25 to it? can i just weld the turbo to the manifold?

Re:Going custom

Well, unfortunitly nobody makes them for sale right now.. My plan was to have a machine doing some but that never worked out. Gary and Randy use to sell them, but I belive they stopped. Your pretty much on your own!

I would highly not recommend you welding the turbo directly to the manifold... even though I have seen it before, and it does work.. its just alot better with some type of adpater plate.
Plus, welding cast iron to cast iron isnt the best way to do things.

why not just use Co2? its cool, and cheap.. co2 fire extinguisher bottle, bottle valve, line to solenoid (kv automation sell suitable ones) and a misting jet from a water injection kit will do...
