Default Glowing turbo manifold? Is this OK????

Ok, Is it normal for the turbo manifold to glow, I can only see it when I pull over immediatly and its fairly dark. I'm running a drag turbo kit on my Integra B18B, I have a EGT guage, and the temp. probe is about 8-10 inches from the top of the down pipe( I know it should be closer, is that a huge deal?). I'm getting up to 1200 F. cruising down the highway, and 900-1000 F around town. My cam timing and ignition timing is set perfect( Stock ). I'm not running any boost, because I'm waiting for Hondata to arrive, so Its not because I'm pushing it hard. My spark plugs show that the fuel mixture is pretty good and fuel efficientcy is normal, my car is set up and driven like a stock integra for the time being. I just want to know if this is normal, and if so, cool. If not give me some Ideas, and any other ideas you might have...

Thanks Justin

Exhausts get hot. Just wait until you start boosting. It'll be like an extra headlight.

How is it that your not going into boost?
If youv'e diconnected the charge pipes then your turbo might be spooling like crazy and getting really hot. Don't think that would be good for the turbo. imo

If your just not going into boost then ---- what I just said.

WHY ARE are you not running boost then something is wrong, just run 3-5 PSI and that will be ok, just as long as you dont push it hard. once the turbo is on the car, it will be spooling (spinning) so dont just thing that becasue you are not in boost, the turbo is not working.

Remember that the manifold is being backedup by the turbo, so heat will build up. and i have seen glowing turbo many times, and it is fun to watch after a intense night of racing, DONT FORGET to buy a turbo timer.....

on a side note, If those temperature readings from the downpipe frighten you then I wouldn't advise putting it on the manifold where it should be.

Are you telling him to boost with no fuel management? That is NOT a good idea.

He is running boost. But only like 3 psi until Hondata arrives. He sold his SAFC to me, so w/o fuel mgt. it would be stupid to boost more than that. oh, btw, it does have a turbo timer.

EXACTLY....why rush things and throw the turbo on the car without management, if you are running low boost, you can get away with babying the car around town. I am not telling him to boost the car without management.
