gauges, gaskets, and bolts (OH MY!)
 

a couple of questions,

1. which gasket do I use for my CX mani? the one for my y8? or for a 92-95 cx? or is it the same? obviously i'll need a cx converter gasket between the mani and the adapter, but what about between the adapter and the turbo? do I need a gasket there? should I just go to autozone and pick one up for a 2g DSM?

2. are there any specific bolts/studs I need to use my BMC adapter plate? can i just get these from a hardware store? or are the special in some way? anyone have a pic or description of exactly what i'm looking for?

3. is a boost gauge a boost gauge and thats it? Is there an advantage to buying an autometer one over a $25 VDO or spearco or matrix? what about A/F gauges should i get the autometer one? or get a auto gage or summit proprietary one?

When it comes to accuraccy of gauges, it's a tough one. I sure haven't done "accuraccy tests" on any gauges, but you don't see John Force using matrix gauges. If you want accuraccy, get autometer or Stewart Warner. If you want bling bling, get something made in taiwan.IMO

I'm not all about lookin cool, I'm about paying half the price of one if another works just as well. I figure i'll end up going with autometers but if somebody knows a cheaper route to do the same thing i'm definitely game.

studs you can use just about whatever you want, just don't use teflon locknuts. they have a tendancy to melt.

don't use lockwashers either, the heat will ---- them and cause the nuts to back off.
i used 3/8"x1.5" bolts with 3/8" nuts and a flat washer on either side. works fine.

if you feel you need to get a gasket, graphite gaskets are the way to go in my opinion.

why wouldn't i need a gasket? won't i get exhuast leaks without them?

you'll want the CX gasket for whatever year that manifold came from and you'll want the exhaust in sided gasket for a 2g DSM. otherwise, you can make your own from gasket sheets.

Bambooseven, I would recomend 10-1.5MM X 25MM long SHCS (Socket Head Cap Screws) for the HF side. There is not much wrench clearance on the HF Manifold for the hex bolts you find in hardware/auto stores. You can use 8-1.25MM X 30MM studs on the turbo side and fasten with flat washers and nuts. You should be able to pick up the Honda gasket at Honda, and the DSM Gasket is about $6.00 at Mitsubishi.
