Gauges

I know some of this a matter of opinion, but which gauges do you ABSOLUTELY need?

I've heard A/F, Boost, Oil Pressure, and EGT...

Any thoughts/

Re:Gauges

i'd say A/F OR EGT.

The other two sound right to me.

Re:Gauges

the only one you ABSOLUTELY need is a boost gauge, hell, you could prolly even get away without a boost gauge if you knew what the wastegate was set at ;D

Oil pressure and boost. Oil just in case an oil feed line etc. breaks or blows and the boost to make sure youre not slowly creeping to more boost than you engine can handle.

Boost and an A/F guage. If your looking for tuneability (and especially if your tuning by yourself) a wideband O2 A/f guage would be the way I'd go.

Re:Gauges

boost....and i dont think anything is necessary. id buy an EGT over A/F...

I've never used an A/F but i always hear people bashing them horribly. If it could just tell me as a warning my A/F was off i would spend the $40-50 but if its not going to be accurate i say just buy a boost gauge. Just get your car tuned and try to find someone locally w/ a wideband. then go out and hook it up during all types of different weather...then you will know if its cold what your a/f will be...hot and so on...

Thats just my thoughts.

Re:Gauges

I've fitted boost gauge, A/F (heh.. it costed me ~10US$ to make one) and addedd oil temp gauge (not really absolutelly needed, but nice to have).

Re:Gauges

since I want my project to be as sleeperish as possible as usual I'll be using one of the gauge cluster bezels as opposed to one of the A Pillar mounts where everybody can see your ----. The gauge cluster bezel = 2 gauges. And for me I'll be using boost and EGT. Without a wideband 02 an A/F gauges is pretty much useless unless something HUGE is happening under the hood. In that case though you wouldn't even need an A/F gauge. an EGT gauge can be more valuable.

links to how you made it? I'm all into this making your own stuff.

Re:Gauges

That's BS autometer doesn't make a gauge cluster bezel for 5g civics. I am going to have to do some custom ---- if I want to hide my gauges now.

EDIT: Oh yeah I would proly get Boost and EGT. Maybe oil pressure and water temp, but the stock oil light and water temp gauge are good for now. Wideband o2 would be nice for tuning, but they are spendy and can't tune my hondata myself yet.

Im not going to announce my car is boosted by having an a pillar mount. im going with Ghetto-rigged subtley.

Re:Gauges

one of the big problems is that if you hide gauges from others sometimes you can't see them. I've seen a picture of someone who removed the sun visor and put gauges up there. Onyx says it's out of the line of sight, but what gauge isn't?

Here's schematics for A/F gauge I used to make.. rather easy and inexpensive. I'll post pics soon of what I've done.. as still turbo isn't mounted yet - but it will be within couple of weeks.

As for some ppl saying A/F gauge without wideband is worthless... depends - yes, you cannot read accurately A/F ratio, but at least you get an idea what's happening - still better than not having anything at all.

thanks for the link, I forgot which thread I had asked you in, so I asked again in another thread.
