fuel is cutting out at 6000rpms!!!! (any more ideaas?)

ok, running 9 psi on a t25, with afc, I've been running fine for the past 3 weeks, not problems, but just today it started acting up. in first and second gear when I reach 6000 or 6500rpms, it seems that the fuel just cuts out, I doubt it does because it was cause major damage, but the car looses all power until I drop below that rpm, and change into 2nd gear, then it's good to go until I get over 6000. I red line at 7200. and ideas? I had it tuned and it's giving the right amout of gas. Maybe something is wrong with the turbo its self. It has about 25,000 on it, off a 98 eclipse, and it has no shaft play at all.

Fuel Pump :-\ :-\ :-\

that's a possiblity, didn't think of that, and it actually does kinda feel like that, because my other car's fuel pump is going out too but it jerks all over the place at low speeds.

Re:fuel is cutting out at 6000rpms!!!!

get a Apex-i SAFC
i got one for my 91 d16a6 and its under 10 psi now and it works fine.. well i also have a MSD5 too. but fuel wise a safc will fix that.. i myself dont sugest taching it up to 7200rpm.. i shift at 6000 at the most.. and under 10psi it scoots.. pretty good ;D

Re:fuel is cutting out at 6000rpms!!!!

^^^good info
I was wondering about that too
mine cuts out at around there too running 3200 RSX injector @7psi. I'm still not dyno tuned thou. The ECU has been making the correction for now
but i didn't think i should redline in a turbo car anyway. ::shrug::

Re:fuel is cutting out at 6000rpms!!!!

I have an apexi SAFC, and it ran fine two days ago all the way up to red line, and I havn't changed anything at all on my afac sttings.

Re:fuel is cutting out at 6000rpms!!!!

do you still have your stock catalyst in your car? the same thing happen to my car 2 weeks ago. i install a test pipe and the problem went away. my car ran alot better with out the cat. i'm not telling u to drive with out a catalyst. just use it as a diagnoise.

Re:fuel is cutting out at 6000rpms!!!!

im running open exhaust
i think everything will be fine after i tune and same for your car
just need to take it easy
Im install a new fuel pump too
I really think this should take care of any other problems

Re:fuel is cutting out at 6000rpms!!!!

no, it's not the stock cat, it's a high flow racing one, not sure what brand it is, i got it used with my greddy sp catback. And speedracer32, my car is tuned, it ran perfect the past 3 weeks, just started acting up at 6000rpms?!

Re:fuel is cutting out at 6000rpms!!!!

no such thing as a high flow cat....also at a certain point the motor begins to "outrun" the turbo....meaning a loss of power, mine happens around 6500 or so, but it doesnt bounce around or anything like that...dunno if that helps or not but there ya go

Re:fuel is cutting out at 6000rpms!!!!

check your oil......

maybe your ECU is not picking up any oil pressure from the VTEC OIL PRESSURE sensor.

Have you ever changed the fuel filter?

pa2play 07-22-2004 07:14 AM

Re:fuel is cutting out at 6000rpms!!!!

oil is good, and no I havn't ever changed my fuel filter. I'll try that, but if it was the fuel filter, wouldn't it kinda act up more that at WOT at 6000rpms?

what ECU are you using?

took out my catilac converter, still does it. It runs great and doesn't do it when it just warms up, but after the 3 or 4th run, it starts to cut out again. :'(

Re:fuel is cutting out at 6000rpms!!!! (any more ideaas?)

Someone on honda-tech suggested this... "had a similar problem and it was because my knock sensor pulled timing because I was almost detonating. Love that little invention." what should I do if it is my knock sensor, and why did it just start going off? I know i'm using 92 octane, & the weather has been in the 70's here in Michigan.

Re:fuel is cutting out at 6000rpms!!!! (any more ideaas?)

SOHC motors dont have knock sensors

chingro4u 07-25-2004 01:52 PM

Re:fuel is cutting out at 6000rpms!!!! (any more ideaas?)

do these one at a time and test car after each to figure out the problem.

-check oil level

-GAP your spark plugs .30 then test car.

-Ground the VTEC oil pressure wire (wire from ECU)
*by doing this you bypass the sensor* if this fix your problem then you know the oil sensor is not working

-Try using another ECU.

i thought y8's had a knock sensor. the newer ones at least.

Re:fuel is cutting out at 6000rpms!!!! (any more ideaas?)

ok, I put 1 step colder plugs and gapped them to .30, nothing ,still does it, as far as the vtec thing, I have a d16Z6, they don't have the vtec, they are a pissy 125 hp engine. just checked oil, it looks good. :-\

D16z6 are SOHC Vtec found in 92-95 ex and si models ;)

Re:fuel is cutting out at 6000rpms!!!! (any more ideaas?)

must be a different vtec than in the '00 si, because when that vtec kicks in, you can feel it and hear it.

that is not a high flow cat. that is a just a resonator and does not convert any emissions.
high flow cats cost more. random technologies is one of the better ones to get.

I have an oil press gauge and it looks good and I checked the oil, looks good, any other ideas?

Re:fuel is cutting out at 6000rpms!!!! (any more ideaas?)

if you are using a stock ECU (P28 i assume), and your oil is good, and pressure is good,AND you checked the VTEC oil pressure sensor, then maybe it is not a FUEL cut off, maybe it is your spark, check ignitor and coil (replace them).

pa2play 07-27-2004 05:56 PM

Re:fuel is cutting out at 6000rpms!!!! (any more ideaas?)

what's an ignitor? Also, I don't know a lot about the coil, what exactly does it do, and what part would it have in high RPM's?
