Default Free big @$$ intercoolers?

Hey all,

My first post here was a question, so I figured I would offer up some information I figured out on FREE IC's!

Most heavy/semi/tractor trucks have turbo desiels in em. They have huge freggin intercoolers. If you do a lil homework, and find a big truck salvage yard somewheres near you, it will be a gold mine.

I found a late model Peterbuilt truck that lightly introduced its front end to something. The IC was punctured and bent on the bottom, but the top was still good. (the IC was about 3 feet tall and about 2.5 feet wide).

They GAVE it to me! I cut the top 8.5 inches or so off the IC, and dropped it off at a welding shop to have the end tanks and pipe outlets welded on for 30 bucks. I havent picked it up from the welder yet, but here is a pic of it before hand:

Its 2.75 thick x 30 long x 8.5 tall, not including the end tanks.

Now find me brand new 28X10X3.5 IC cores for $90. I know a couple people getting them for that price, but they won't share where.

If you've ever done a netsearch for heat exchanger cores, even specifying bar/fin plate/fin to narrow things down to automotive IC applicable items, you'll know how many thousand hits you get for industrial places not wanting to deal with the little guy, or people wanting to charge what a finished IC runs retail, for just a core.

I've seen a few old 80-something Spearco ICs with a "blackstone" tag on them. I'm not sure if that's Spearco's source (I always ASSumed they made their own cores, actually) or just some kit manufacturer or what.

If you cut an intercooler horizontally what do you have to do to close all the holes that you will make (in the ducts or whatever)? I mean wont the air escape from the side that you cut it? Anyone understand what I'm trying to say?

Thanks
