Found a perfect oil restrictor for turbos.

Well in being worried about oil pressure to my turbo I looked into finding a good solution. The ball valve type restrictors are just not a useable option. I bought a Stevemode kit that it was included in. I don't feel I want to use it. I don't feel safe about it staying put. I did a ton a research and found that a .060 orifice is ideal. After that I found the exact 1/8 male x 1/8 female with a .060 restrictor at atp turbo. Its was around $14 and $11 to ship. Thats retarded. $25 for a $10 fitting? I searched through Mcmaster.com and found an 1/8male x 1/8 female with a .063 orifice. This seems ideal. Here is the number and description.

Each 2712T488 Brass Flow-Control Orifice with Pipe Thread 1/8" Male X Female, 0.063" Orifice Diameter (Same as 2712T44) $7.43

Shipping is extra, but to CT its cheap. This is the best price I can find. Hope it helps anyone else out. I think running no restrictor in the last few turbos is what led to premature damage.

i get a fitting, braze the end and drill a hole in it. Its cheaper :)... A restricter is just a restriction not much need for debate and quality analyasis*.

Good for t3 center sections. It's the 7/16 and the wacky metric ones you need to find now. :4 ($11 is outfuckenrageous to ship that small of a part.)

yea i wish i would have known before. i said ---- it and ordered it from atp a month ago along with my fire ring. the only thing is it doesn't attatch to any of my fittings, where in-line are you guys installing these? i was going to put it right at the center section but then the feed line won't fit into it. ??? i may try to play with it tomorrow

I use nitrous jets.

They make bushings for just about every thread combo. Then you can just use this one with a bushing.

Jeremy, I'm gonna run this at the turbo as well. Thats where it should be run from what I read.

Good find, I ran stealths on my last kit rock steady and plan on running it on my next one, I also use his firewall kit for mounting it. mounted it before the "T" and tyhe mounted my guage and turbo feed on the the other end of the "T" so I can monitor the pressure

Well, this is mine restrictor... Our local hydrolic shop sell those things for a lousy 10 euros... (about $11???) You can set it from 1 PSI till full and it works great!! Some pics:

Re: Found a perfect oil restrictor for turbos.

what do the oil restrictors do? is it bad to have 80psi going to your turbo? and has anyone bought a brass fitting from autozone for a oil feed line?

Ravage70 07-08-2006 03:05 PM

Re: Found a perfect oil restrictor for turbos.

80 psi will own your turbo

thats where i tried putting it, the male end goes in the center section but the female end will not accept my line, looks like i have to shell out $15 for another little brass adapter.

Re: Found a perfect oil restrictor for turbos.

Thats because you also have to use the -3an to 1/8 adapter that came with your oil line kit. (If its a Stevemode kit, and it should be! It will be in there.)

Re: Found a perfect oil restrictor for turbos.

Re: Found a perfect oil restrictor for turbos.

Just get it at Homedepot or Mcmaster car. I believe its the same as the 3/16 inverted flare.

Hey CSaddict I was wondering if this piece worked out well for your setup? I am considering going and picking one up from McMaster (10 mins away from me) soon but I would like your input before I go buy it.

Yes they work great.

Re: Found a perfect oil restrictor for turbos.

I grabbed an old 1/4" pressure REGULATOR from work. The pressure regulator is like an adjustable orifice controlled on pressure so you have almost no restriction when your pressure is below your setpoint but once the pressure comes to your setpoint it holds it there. A straight orifice will restrict flow (pressure drop) at low pressure and high pressure.

3 an braided hose and no restrictors and never had a problem

Re: Found a perfect oil restrictor for turbos.

I just took my vice-grip and squished the hard line untill I got the pressure I wanted. Did'nt cost anything, but I do have a $11 oil pressure gauge to monitor it.

What oi pressures do you all run your turbos at, and type of turbos do you have?

I made my own restrictor from a Homecheepo water line fitting...it's one of those brass tap fittings that tap the cold water copper pipe for a water supply to your fridge (if you have like a built in ice-maker :) ). It ends up looking something like the adjustable valve shown in the pics above and cost me about $2 to make ;D

I usually keep any turbo restricted to 40psi and lower.
