Forged rods and pistons

I read in the Hybrid/Tech section that the engine block will have to be notched in order to install forged rods and pistons. There was no mention of the type of engine.

I have a few questions for any D16Z6 owners with forged rods and pistons:
1. Will I have to notch the block? If yes, how is it done and about how much is the cost to get it done?
2. Is there a particular set of forged rods and pistons that can be installed without any modification to the engine block?

I need this information ASAP for installation next week.

Thanks in advance for all your help.

I'm wondering the same thing since I'll be building up an engine soon. D16Z6 Eagle Rods

You need to notch with a D-series if you're using H-beam Rod's. With Crower I beams you don't need to.

Thank you. By the way, which is better...the I-beam or the
H-beam rod? I'll be boosting between 12-15 PSI ;).

Re:Forged rods and pistons

it would take you a year and a day with a tiny ass dremel. use a die grinder or something like that. And you could probably run stock internals at 15psi, so the rods are up to you

Re:Forged rods and pistons

for 15 psi, just run stock internals, they'll last for a while, in the mean time save the money until you need them, don't fix it if it ain't broke ;)

15psi on stock d internals?
never, well maybe for a week

i bet it would last quite a while with good tuning. i ran 13psi for months on a shitty smc500 and 450s. Im not saying its the smartest thing to do, but i think it would work

ummmmm, ok, maybe not a d15. a z6 will handle it for a while with good tuning.

The rings in cylinder number one broke last week Saturday when I was on a dyno.

Projekteg, thank you. I call them, and they also have 8:1 compression piston and rings for $400.00. This is standard size piston for D16Z6.

---- that, I ran 14psi on a stock D15 daily. 8) I would say about 99% of every take off was an all out drag race to the next stop so it's not like it was an easy 14psi. ;)

I like how they limit the amount to 15psi. Is that 15psi from an IHI or 15psi from a SC61? ???

Re:Forged rods and pistons

To all turbo car owners:

What's your opinion on running stock D16Z6 rods with forged pistons? I am just looking at all options. I can get Eagle H-Beam for $330.00, and Crower I-Beam for about $600.00+

Also, I did a compression test last weekend and the results are as follows: Cylinder #1...60
#2...190
#3...195
#4...190
The engine has about 105K miles.

Any and all suggestions/opinions are welcome.

Thank you,
StanB

Re:Forged rods and pistons

don't bother putting forged pistons on stock d series rods, go ahead and do it right if you're going to. h beams will be more than enough for stock sleeves, i promise. you can get the kits on ebay with h beams, pistons, and rings, for like 650 for d series. i would do that.
