FMU users plz help me out
anyone who is using a fmu with their turbo setup plz tell me how its working for you and how long youve had the setup? and what kinda setup?
|
do not use an fmu. its not a tune. it just exponentially dumps fuel into the engine. this creates dangerously high fuel pressure, injector damage, cylinder wash out and a loss of power.
using an fmu is the cheapest way to boost your vehicle but it is not the correct way. spend the extra money on larger injectors and a custom tune. |

using an fmu is the cheapest way to boost your vehicle but it is not the correct way. spend the extra money on larger injectors and a custom tune. i had one on my old crx with a 14b on 11 psi ran perfect for 2 years then i sold it. people who hate on them have never used them. i remember 15 years ago thats all anyone had. are they out dated ? yes. is there better options ? yes. but do they work ? yes so if thats all you can afford with the money you got than use it ;D |
this is true. they work but as i stated above they are not a tune. a tune requires more than just adding fuel. each rpm range of an engine requires a specific amount of fuel and timing when boosting. an fmu can not do this. it is not precise fuel metering and it doesnt control timing therefore you are sacrificing power. save the money and tune it. in the end you will be much happier.

thats exactly wat i wanted to use was the 14b, ahha and you ran it 2 years? holy ----, you just destroyed these fmu hater's ego's haha wat was your setup?
|
once again. yes they work but they are not a tune. you put an fmu on anything and it will be reliable. they been using them since the early 90's when there was no electronic options available. there cheap and they richen up the mixture under boost but they do not tune the vehicle. you will not gain the power per pound of boost like a custom tune will give you. fmu's are affordable if your boosting less than 6 psi. any more than that and your fuel pressure will reach a component damaging high pressure. the problem with this site is its name "home made". when the average user on here decides to build a turbo system that doesnt have a lot of money or knowledge of fuel systems, engine dynamics and turbo systems they look to experienced people for knowledge. ive built many turbo cars and motorcycles. i am well trained in auto mechanics and turbo systems. turbo systems are money pits to build and maintain so dont let money issues hinder your ability to make good decisions. spend the money on your build wisely and put some aside for a proper tune. you will thank me later.
if you decide to use and fmu which im sure you will because of one person who stated they used one for 2 years, make sure you keep the boost below 6 psi. if you decide to listen to me. find a tuner that is reputable. you will make much more power with the same boost rating out of a custom tune then you will ever get out of an fmu. that is all i have to say so good luck on your build and post some pics. |
