FMU set ups - 85 CRX 1.5 GOING BOOST!
 

Hi everyone, done a fair bit of research into boosting my little Crx.

The engine is a EW3 (1.5 12VAVLE INJECTION)

I want to run seriously low boost - like 3-5psi

A few mains questions really.


Ive been looking into using a FMU (Fuel management Unit) - They come in either 8:1 10:1 or 12:1 Which would i need? Im already running a upgraded fuel pump (4bar)

Also, what should i do in regards to my adjustable fuel pressure regulator?

Ill be running a LC-1 with the car - i guess i should be running 14s the entire time?

What should i do with the dizzy - its a vac advance!

Also the MAP sensor? ive heard of something called the magic box?!

Ok, I'll assume you are looking for a tune that will just get it working OK on a low budget, instead of, say, converting to a standalone ECU and dyno tuning it.

I'd get one you can adjust the ratio on so you can tune as needed.


14's off boost, mid to low 12's on it at the level you plan to run. 14s in boost worries me.

You could simply back off the base timing, although off boost drivability will suffer. There's a couple piggyback timing retards out there like MSD's BTM that you could use as well, although they start adding cost.

I did look into buying a standalone ecu however the price starts at £600 then all you have is a blank box! So £600 + hours and hours at a dyno having a map made from scratch... Too much £ for me.

How reliable would a FMC be? My car is a daily so it would be as simple as if if there's a possibility it could be a can of shite then ill bail on all plans.

As long as you keep it out of detonation, it should be reasonably reliable at the small amount of boost you want to run.
