I have a 3" flex pipe that I was going to use on my exhaust but after recieving it and taking a look down inside, it looks as if it will cause very bad turbulance. Is there a truth to this or does it effect flow at all? Theres very deep valleys in between the ribs inside. It is your typical flex pipe with the woven metal fibers on the outside. On the inside it basicaly looks just like a dryer hose. Opinions and facts please..

 

i have that same kind of flex pipe. but mine is 2.5".anyway i havent noticed ant problems with it. the only prob. with my exhaust is that it necks down to 2.25"

 

The only time I would ever run a flex pipe is for temporary use.

What are you using this pipe for? the actual downpipe or the exhaust system?

 

i use mine to connect the dp to the exhaust,so it has somewhere to flex. i would say that using some kind of a flex pipe as a dp would hurt ur performace badly, but just using it like i am would not make that big of a diff. ??

 

Are you talking about these? Sorry for some reason I was thinking about something else. These work great, we use them on all of our downpipes. No problems what so ever.

Don't worry about a flex pipe cauing turbulance. Yes, its not as smooth as a straight pipe but your only loosing about .0000047hp. Depending on what turbo your using the exhaust is going to be low pressure so its not going to effect anything performance wise

 

Yep one of those. I am using it to give the exhaust some flex. For the last year its been a solid mounted exhaust with no flex pipe but with the turbo I didnt want to cause any extra stress than needed. I was going to weld it in at the END of my DP. NOT on any bent setion just the last bit of straight section before it bolts up to my cat/test-pipe/straight pipe area. BTW I have no cat or test-pipe I welded a straight section in directly to my exhaust.

Downpipe---> flex with a flange - flange to straight exhaust---> Resonator----> axleback muffler all mandrel. My current exhaust is 2.5" so I bought the 3" flex for future upgrades to full 3" exhaust. My muffler inlet is also 3" thinking ahead.

 

you'll be fine with those. those flex will actually prevent unnecessary stress on the manifold bolts.
