fire ring in ss auto wastegate?
im helping my buddy turbo his ek civic. Hes rocking an ss auto wastegate, but the ring that goes around the piston doesnt sit down all the way. It sticks above the flange and the gasket doesnt fit over it? The ring obviously has to be in because it would leak exhaust out from around it all the time. Is this an ss auto fitment problem, or am i :1

Re: fire ring in ss auto wastegate?
I've got an ssauto wastegate, i havent used it yet because i dont know what spring is in it but it looks normal. If anyone could tell me if theres anyway to tell what psi the spring is let me know, I already took it apart and the spring has no paint on it at all.

Re: fire ring in ss auto wastegate?
just bolt it up to the manifold and as u tighten it down the ring will suck up into the wastegate.

Re: fire ring in ss auto wastegate?
^true dat. if is still doesnt want to go, then you got the wrong ring.. :y

Re: fire ring in ss auto wastegate?
is common sense absent in your state or county?
|
Re: fire ring in ss auto wastegate?
my buddy had this same problem. im almost positive he just tightened it until the spring compresses it up.

Re: fire ring in ss auto wastegate?
try tighening more...if that dosent work just buy a tial
|
Re: fire ring in ss auto wastegate?
it will work, just put it in even, and tighten it down evenly. my tial does that sometimes also.

Re: fire ring in ss auto wastegate?
ditch the gasket and just tighten it down with the fire ring.

that part is just to seal the valve of the wastegate so it wont leak through the dump tube when the valve is closed. the gasket is to seal it so it wont leak to the outside of the flange |
Re: fire ring in ss auto wastegate?
thats what i thought.. my audi gate is like that. But the wastegate is machined so that it can only go in so far, no matter how hard you tighten. It bottoms out on a lip inside. Youll just strip the bolts if you tighten it anymore

Re: fire ring in ss auto wastegate?
its my buddies and my DL is suspended, so i dont get to work on his ---- all that often. Ill post up some pics next time i go over there. At least its not me getting owned by ss auto

Re: fire ring in ss auto wastegate?
its supposed to sit out like that. when you tighten it down, it will go into the housing. you can push it in by hand, but it takes a bit of force. put the gasket on the manifold flange, then tighten it all down... done

Ditch the gasket and use cooper seal. its a sce copper gasket, like all sce copper gaskets except for 35/38mm wastegate. $5 each they were on back order, so I waited for 3 weeks but it was worth it, still looks untouched. 2 thumbs up sor sce gaskets |

Re: fire ring in ss auto wastegate?
i didn't use any rings for my ssautochrome wastegate...i just installed it how it was when i got it in the mail and it runs fine, boosting like 12 psi...i saw the ring and didn't know what is was for...but after upgrading to a turbosmart ultra gate i finally decided to use one...
