Re: figure this ish out!!!

So your dipstick shows that you have no oil? Where are you located?

Anubis_4_99 02-18-2006 10:34 PM

Re: figure this ish out!!!

yes, my dipstick says i have no oil

i put in two quarts of oil an hour and a half ago, and it still reads bone dry

i have perfect oil pressure, my motor runs great, and my vtec even engages

im located in nebraska about an hour away from norfolk

Re: figure this ish out!!!

Well that is odd. Maybe you have something interfiering with stick?

Anubis_4_99 02-18-2006 10:45 PM

Re: figure this ish out!!!

nothing that i can see or feel, dipstick goes down all the way with no interference

RJwaggs 02-18-2006 10:52 PM

Re: figure this ish out!!!

Does the stick insert into the pan? If so, then I guess taking off the pan is something you may want to look into.

Re: figure this ish out!!!

just like any normal dipstick.. if i cant get anyone with a good idea of whats wrong i probably will drain and pull it

MikeJ-2009 02-18-2006 11:59 PM

Re: figure this ish out!!!

The cost vs. the knowledge is nothing. Do a complet oil change and if it still shows nothing than look into pulling the pan or doing something more drastic. I believe the dipstick holder (at the block) is removable. Is it possible that the holder has slid up a little bit just enough to prevent the dipstick of going as deep as it needs to?

Anubis_4_99 02-19-2006 12:17 AM

Re: figure this ish out!!!

i just did a complete oil change less then a week ago :( freakin stuff cost me over $40, im dirt poor right now so i wanna avoid haveing to do it again yet

i hadnt thought about the holder slideing up but i'll check that in the morning, it's -5 right now so i aint doin ---- outside untill tomorrow ;D

Are you sure the dipstick is the right one for the motor? Has it always read fine before?

Unless one of your firends is ------- with you by cutting your dipstick :P or changing it, I would trust it. :-\ Of course this is assuming the holder is all the way in. You wouldn't happen to have a crank scraper, would you?

Re: figure this ish out!!!

car is always in a locked garage so i know no one cut my dipstick ;D and like i said no motor problems what so ever, i even let it idle in my garage for about 5 mins listening for anything out of the ordinary and it sounded perfect

I've checked my oil plenty of times in my old cars and found a dry dipstick, but the motor still ran fine and showed no signs of low oil. VTEC is a ----- if the oil pressure is low, but you say it's good....there is probably just enough oil in it to supply enough oil pressure. ??? I would just add a quart or two and see what happens. Are you checking while it's hot, warm, or cold? How long after the motor is shut off are you checking it?

Re: figure this ish out!!!

checked cold and warm

i already put two quarts in and it still reads dry, if it somehow does still have all the oil in it i dont want to overfill it and damage something.. i checked about 30 seconds after the motor was off, 5 mins after the motor was off, and just after putting in the new oil, and there wasnt any sign of oil on the stick

I would be more worried about running it so low on fluid that it won't register on the dipstick. :X There is a plug on the bottom of the motor that allows you to drain oil if you overfill. :P

Re: figure this ish out!!!

I have had many cars come in for oil changes that have had less then 1/2 a quart in both the pan and filter combined, no problems to speak of :l

Re: figure this ish out!!!

if its reading now you may have cloged galleries...see if there is a lot of oil sitting in your head. did you just recently buy the car or not change the oil often or change oils? all of these could mean there is sludge build up in the engine and it has broke loose and partially cloged the galleries

yeah i just bought the car recently, but i did an oil change as soon as i bought it, and i change my oil every 1500-2000 miles, this problem just popped up out of the blue, it was reading fine the day before and then all of a sudden i have a dry dip stick

Re: figure this ish out!!!

did you change the oil yourself, or have some place do it? they could have pulled a "stupid ass retard highschool kid who doesn't know what the ---- he's doing, and put the wrong cars dipstick in there" just a thought.

Re: figure this ish out!!!

Get a clean pan, and empty the oil into it. Measure the amount, then put it back in your engine. Then get back to us.

Wierd freaking problem.

i dont let mechanics touch my car unless i cant fix the problem myself first, i've only had to do it once, and that was because i needed to get a motor swapped over a weekend and didnt have the tools or time (i was in the process of moveing) otherwise i would have done that as well ;D

my new turbo gets here wednesday so i'll change the oil then or this weekend, whenever i get the time to install the new turbo
