factory turbo q's

ok a few basic questions to start out with. i am new to the whole turbo thing and for my first project i am turboing my i6 in my 99 jeep. i have another thread on that. i just would like some basic info on stock turbos in cars i could find at a junkyard. i know that the 1.8t wvolkswagons have them what is this turbo like is it decent. i want 5 psi to start with and can wastgate down thats not a prob. i am going through the threads right now for research. is like 150-200 good for a used turbo system on the cheap side. i have a mandril bender and a gas mig so the fabrication isn't my problem. another thing is will the turbo stay cool enough under the jeep. i want to keep my stock headers and everything cause i just had it all port matched and polished. anyinfo that can help will be great thnx

ok man since ive got nothing better to do ill help you help. 1.8t jetta turbos are very small. i wouldnt recommend that. you want something along the line of a t3. your gonna need something for fuel managment. you can probably get an safc (about 200 bux) to add some more fuel to your motor. your not gonna be able to use you stock header. mostly because the turbo has no way of mounting to it. unless you can fabricate a flange on the manifold to match the turbo flange. your gonna want and intercooler of some sort and possibly a bov. your looking along the lines in prices of a little more than 200.
lets say.
100 for the the turbo
200 for the safc
50 for intercooler
30 for bov
not sure what bigger injectors you can use?
manifold???not sure what your gonna do??
you really need to start reading about turbos and understanding what they do and what they require before you do it. YOU got A LOT of reading to do my friend

$200 won't even cover fuel management

you can probly make an adpater plate to bolt the turbo up to the stock header. then you will need a intercooler, a BOV, charge piping, oil lines, coolant lines, plus FUEL MANAGEMENT

you would be best to use a turbo like a T3,

for fuel management, you could use a FMU, a SAFC(w/ or w/o larger injectors) or something ghetto rigged.
