F22A Turbo Project (Questions)
Hi guys, I am fairly new here but have been reading about the homebrew turbo scene for a few months now.
In spring I plan to build a turbo setup for my honda prelude S (shares the motor with an accord, the F22A1 for those that are wondering). Now I found out that the mitsubishi manifolds bolt up to my engine after re-drilling a bolt hole. So I will probably be using a manifold and turbo off an eclipse/laser/talon. This will be very much on the cheap side as this is just an experiment, I was planning an H22 swap but I want to try out the turbo thing first and see how it goes. Is it safe for me to run about 5-7psi daily on basically stock injectors and fuel delivery? Can anyone give me a rough estimation of how much hp I would be making at about 5psi? (I know this depends on MANY variables but someone with some experience must be able to give me some #'s) The motor puts out about 135hp and 140ft/lbs stock. Anybody have any suggestions on neccesary, yet cheap parts that will save my engine? |
Re:F22A Turbo Project (Questions)
If i'm not mistaken, the F22 is very similar to the sohc D-series motors.. just bigger =D
in fact, the local dealer has an F22 on a stand in the showroom, and I thought it was a D16Y8 just at a glance =P if it's anything like the D's 5-7psi is very do-able -Henry |
Re:F22A Turbo Project (Questions)
do you think 5-7psi is safe on a stock fuel system?

^bro, everyone here knows there ----...
buuut there is a dude bud on honda-tech with a boosted F22... he's been running it for a bit, and he says with no probs... it's good to do as a learning experience. |
Re:F22A Turbo Project (Questions)
Just like any turbo system, doesnt matter what car or what engine. You are going to need some type of fuel managment. Just bolting a turbo and raming 6psi on your stock fuel system will work, but you wont get the power and relibility you are looking for. At the bare minimum a FMU.
F&H series motors are pretty strong, and can take some good boost if managed correctly. They have a closed deck design as well. Jeff |
