F22 Turbo question

Hello everyone, I've decided to turbo my stock F22A accord cause I want the performance and the oh so sweet bov sound.. ;D
I don't want to pay $3k for a kit so I'll be going custom and piecing together all the parts, mostly gonna be salvage yard parts :P Anyway, does anyone here know if a 2nd gen DSM exhaust manifold will match up to the F22A ports? I know the 1st gen manifolds do.. but how about the 2nd gen?
And does anyone know how to tell what size an injector is from the imprints on the side? or tell by the color tops? like blue = 450cc, yellow = 720cc? green top=?? and the other colors. Also what would be the minimum injector size I can use if I were to boost between 5psi~7psi with a max of 8psi? would it be 450cc or can I go to the 300cc's? thanks!

Re:F22 Turbo question

That is kinda floating around on this board right now, if the DSM manifold will fit on the F/H series motors, I have heard its close, but I really wish someone would just buy a set of gaskets to see how much we are talking about, I think that would be great if you guys could use the dsm setup on your cars, the turbo is plenty big for the f22's.

I did this little write up last night,

https://www.homemadeturbo.com/dsm.htm

yellow tops I think are jdm 550's from the 4g63... pretty rare. You will also need some type of fuel controller (apex/vafc hack) to pulse them slower, otherwise you will wash your rings pretty quick.

Good luck,
Jeff Frank

Re:F22 Turbo question

The 2g DSM manifold should match up w/a F22 because with slight porting they work very nicely with 1g DSM's. The 1g DSM manifolds are ok, but a 2g one would be better. I suggest getting one and seeing how it fits up and look into port matching it to the block.

Re:F22 Turbo question

Thanks for the info Jeff. I've read on acouple of boards that the 1st gen manifolds will bolt right up after redrilling some holes and that some people have them on their F22A's.. but no one knows if the 2nd gen manifolds will fit :-[ and I don't want to buy a more expensive 2nd gen manifold and not have it fit >:(

I plan to use an Apexi S-AFC for my fuel management actually, pretty cheap and the screen looks nice.

I pulled what looks like an Airesearch T3 this past weekend from an old Volvo.. no stinking DSMs at the junkyards around me ???, The turbo has ARs of .48 exhaust and .42 compressor and no shaft play and "was" spinning freely, but I think it's just some dirt that fell in it when I was taking it off... which brings me to another question.. the turbo is rather greasy and dirty on the outside.. would it be safe to just dunk the whole turbo into a bucket of say gasoline or degreaser to clean it off? or do I need to dismantle it and clean it little by little?
So does anyone know what size the green top injectors are? came off an older Volvo ;) Thanks guys and great site Jeff!

Would it be wise for me to buy an "already ported" 2g manifold then? or just look for a stock 2g manifold and port it myself? Thanks.

Re:F22 Turbo question

I would suggest buying an unported one cheap from a junkyard to see if it will even work on the block. If it does, then you can port it yourself or take it to a machine shop and have them port it for you. Otherwise, you buy a new ported one and it turns out to not fit, you're stuck with a couple hundred $$$ 2g DSM manifold you can't use.

You said no junkyards around you have DSM's? I suggest looking harder or if there really aren't any, find someone that can get a 2g manifold for you and then do kind of a third partyish thing.

Re:F22 Turbo question

That t3 is a bit small, and I would be looking for something else for your motor, I would really be checking into the full dsm setup. The 1g and 2g exhaust manifold have the same port configuration, I dont think their is hardly a difference.

I dont know about gas, but brake clean works very well.

Not sure, and I dont think many people will know, will they even fit in our fuel system? I could of swore the volvo turbo injectors are very odd looking.

Too small? I thought the T3 48/42 would be a perfect size for the F22? I'm only planning to boost about 5psi at first, then up to 7psi, maybe 8psi max... This turbo shouldn't be too small to boost that little right? Anyone know what the default wastegate pressure is set too on the Volvo T3 turbos? I wouldn't want to blow my engine right off the bat :)

does anyone actually have any pics of a 1gen manifold on a f22a block.? that would be great becuase their charging me 450 to make one for my motor. thats way to much for my broke ass. thanks
