external wastegate on an HF manifold

did a search, couldn't quite find what I wanted.

I have a turbo, no internal wastegate. had plans for a manifold, now I'm changing my overall plan and just want a cheap manifold.

has anyone successfully used an externally wastegated turbo on an HF manifold? how much work was it etc? it will be a 38mm TiAL wastegate. how will I do it?

its kind of a pain in the ass but very do-able.

all you need is a tial 38mm flange and a good welder.

this auction is always on ebay. the manifold is equal lenth tubular stainless. flanges are for: D-series, T3, and TiAL 35mm WG. they're going for $150 NR.

Are these manifolds no good? I was thinking about buying one myself. They look nice.

i asked this about 2 months ago, there were pics posted too... me and some friends are going to mount a Deltagate to a HF manifold hopefully soon, and i will take some pics of that ghetto ass lookin ---- ::)

i've seen them on ebay, with wastegate flanges welded where the o2 sensor bung is. looks pretty slick.

i've seen it done...you need 2 flanges and a 90 bend so you just bedn it away from teh manifold caus eif not it will not fit....tahst my info

Re:external wastegate on an HF manifold

any good welder would tell you to ---- off if you asked them to put mild steel on a cast manifold. chances of it cracking due to heat changes are far too great.

you can build a log manifold for about $35-40
with that your possibilities are endless as to mounting and adding stuff, just cut & weld since it's all mild steel or all stainless, whichever route you go (stainless will be more expensive.)

there are nicer manifolds than the ssautochrome one out there, i've read too many horror stories about them.

****CRACK!***

not good.

anyhow, if you're looking for budget & function go with a log style, the gains you'll get over a log with an equal length are not as much as you'd expect, the log manifolds i've built have actually flowed just as nice as the factory manifold.

I cant believe this s autochrome hasn't become some sort of online joke phenom like all your base are belong to us.
those things SUCK!!!!

I can? or my welder can? =)

my situation is that I want boost, but it won't be on the d-series for long.. soon it will be on my b-series. so I want a manifold that won't be hard to make (or have made), won't blow up, and won't be expensive.

then again, I'm having second thoughts because I'd have to replace the clutch, which means replacing the tranny because of my bastard 88 civic. anyway. how do you figure I could make one for 35-40$?

Re:external wastegate on an HF manifold

yep if you weld anything onto the cast, the hea expansion is different, so itll just crack and fall off :D

get a log

Re:external wastegate on an HF manifold

ive welded cast to steel many times with no problems...with a 110v lincoln welder. Both of the manifolds ive used had cast flanges welded to them, since i was too cheap to go out and buy them, so i cut them off stock manifolds.

Re:external wastegate on an HF manifold

same here, i have welded steal to cast many times, never ever had a problem with it cracking or anything

for example

the o2 housing off of my saab t3 was cast, i welded steal onto that (the rest of my exhaust) and bottomed it out hard core many time and it just flattened the downpipe, didint crack the welds.

how long did you use it?

i have never had any of my welds break when i weld to cast. same with me, i bottomed my dp fierce a couple of times and never a break

im a champion

I have a 5 bolt internal gate w/ flapper + actuator for a t3... that i could possibly sell to someone in need...

FOR THE LOVE OF GOD, PLEASE DO NOT BUY THAT MANIFOLD OR ANY OTHER PART FROM THAT SELLER!!! READ HIS FEEDBACK!!!

I feel like emailing those people that got suckered into leaving positive feedback for him and telling them how to leave "follow-up feedback". They can give a follow -up report on how shitty the manifold is. I can't believe that guy is still selling bags of ---- on egay. ::)
