Exhust question.

1.3 LTR 4 cylinder engine Turboed.

THe doubt I have is about the Exhaust.
RIght now everything after the Turbo is pretty much stock.
THis exhaust dosent have a cat con.

Im thinking of making the exhaust free flow.
My mates tell me that the engine is boosting. Its making good power why touch it.

What kind of gains would I get by going free flow.
WHat kind of pipe dia are you guys using. For a 1.3 Ltr boosted to 16 PSI

Re: Exhust question.

2.5" mandrel bent pipe with a Genie Tornado Muffler. The muffler is flowbench tested and flows just as much as a straight pipe and reduces exhaust noise by 18 dba.

Re: Exhust question.

What kinda gains are we talking about roughlly.
Would it make sence if I put in a 2.5" bend pipe take it down a few inches and then hook it back into the stock exhaust. Or does it make sence to just bite the bullet and go straight thru the complete length.

Is it possible to weld SS to MS. i.e. the elbows are in Stainless steel. The metal flange on the turbo is Mild Steal.

Re: Exhust question.

How about some detailed specs of your setup.

It's really hard to guess based upon the little info you've given.

Re: Exhust question.

Specs and pics where posted.
But here are some numbers hope they help.

Bore=74
Stroke 75.5
RPM 6500
Air Temp= 24c
Engine VE=65%
Boost Pressure= 68 Killo Pascals (10psi)
Compresor Effiency= 70%
Intercooler Effiency 75%
Engine cc= 1298
Natrually Aspirated flow 2.74 Cm/Min
Air Temp before Intercooler = 91c
Temp Drop 50c
Air Temp after intercooler= 40c
Turbo Charged cm/min=4.16
Air Kg per minute = 4.71
Turbcharged Kw @ 6500 = 83.95 or 112 BHP less 10%= 100.8
Torque Nm = 123

Keeping all paramaters the same if we push the RPM to 7000
Then its making 120 BHP or 108 BHP at the rear wheel.

(These calculated numbers match the results we got on G-Tech.)
