Exhaust heat tape on manifold

Hi!

I just have installed my xmas present, manifold heat wrap tape.

During the first run it smelled awful and the manifold was smoking like hell. The colour of the tape has changed from white to light brown then gold. Is this normal? The colorchange is normal IMO, but why it smokes and smells so terrible? I don't dare to start my engine again. ???

Please, anyone has experience with such tape?

yep, thats normal. mine smelled kinda like cotton candy or something ,and smoked a little. my uncle used some on his car and it did the same thing for a while. so go run that baby a let it "burn" off

Yeah thats perfectly normal. It's just burning off like residue from your hands, and other ----. It's just takes a couple of drives for it to stop smoking. What kind is that by the way it's looks really nice and not all frayed like other stuff I've seen like the DEI header wrap.

That wrap sure looks nice; like it doesn't give you itchy hands. Mine gave off lots of small glassfiber? particles during the install.

i'd use some thin metal steel wire to twist tie the wrap instead of the hose clamps. twist it with a vise grip plier,it's easy to do. i heard that's normal for it to smoke a bit.

I used some headerwrap along time ago on a hf manifold, and dear god that ---- stunk for weaks, not to mention all the fiberglass that was stuck in my hands.

This one gets a ::HT THUMBSDOWN::

Ghetto D said that his got fiberglass in his hands and smelled like popcorn for about a week, so I'm pretty sure that's normal.

Thank you for all answers! The smoke has almost gone by now, but it still smells a bit. Anyway, i dare to drive it now at least :)

Stillnoturbo! It was bought in Hungary and the tape was produced (Jacky Auto Sport Racing) in Poland, i don't think you find it outside Europe.
