Re:engine management

I've been told that the 450cc vafc hack is the way to go. I had the same questions and these guys told me for 6-7psi a FMU and fuel pump are good, but if you want to go higher and everyone does, you should get the bigger injecters. I was wondering how to get DSM injectors in a civic but Jeff said they will do a rightup on that when the site opens. I'll let you know how mine runs when I put it in next week. I'm going to run 7psi on a walbro 255lph fuel pump and 12:1 fmu.

Re:engine management

You choose one or the other, not both..

I prefer the 450cc afc/smc hack before I would use a FMU anyday.

The 450's with the controller will allow you to run more boost safely.

Re:engine management

for such a low psi you are fine with a good pump and an fmu.. "you are using an intercooler right?" Anything over that is going to require an extra fuel shot at boost as well as timing retardation..

Check out the megasquirt website for a boost refrenced ecu good up to 2 bar,

Re:engine management

well for now i guess the fmu will be kool but down the line i thinking to get 450 and afc hack
wat about that ignition wat do u guys think?
thanks

Re:engine management

Again with regards to ignition you should be most concerned with being able to retard it on boost..
Ex 1psi of boost = some amt of retardation. 2 pounds of boost more retardation, and so on..

Jacobs makes on and so does msd..
msd calls it the boost timing master. I have one its adjustable, e.t.c..

I belive there is one by accell, as well some complete ignition systems adress the situation as well. :D

Re:engine management

how much retard would i need or does that depend on a lot of things?

Re:engine management

For 5-7psi maybe set the BTM to .4 or .3 You would be suprised, most guys that have used btms dont have them set very high at all. especially running low boost levels.

Re:engine management

bob kennedy from turborex told me that with a 12:1 fmu a-a intercooled and a msd btm i didn't need another fuel pump. he ran his 87 crx @ 14psi boost with OEM fuel pump. bigger injectors though.

Re:engine management

Your pump should equal the pressure rating of the fmu.. Otherwise you will not get the full benifit of the fmu..
Alot of stock pumps are sufficiant. its just one more thing to check out and consider.
