Is it possible to put an electric clutch on a SC so that you can control when the SC is on rather than all the time??

yeah. I have seen people do it all the time. Just take the one out of your A/C compressor and weld it up to the input shaft of the S/C. Then you can be all trick, and push the A/C for the S/C. Maybe even make the button say S/C. :6

Ok. to clear up this thread.

SOME...not ALL Superchargers come with an electric clutch to engage them. Others just have a static pully that spins the S/C all the time

My supercharger that I have on my car is an electric clutched one off a mercedes SLK.

nobody here said that they all have an electric clutch. i think that most of us here know that superchargers are usually fixed on a belt. thats why WHISKEYDICKS45 was asking HOW to make an eletric clutch work. did you even read any of this thread?

Yes. I did read the entire thread. Maybe you should too. This answer infers that he's assuming that all SC's come with a clutched pulley.

In all honesty. it is nice having the switch to turn the S/C on and off and go back to N/A.

Just some things to be aware of.

-N/A with the S/C just sitting there slightly freewheeling is a LOT less power than if you were stock N/A
-The engine doesn't like the S/C being turned off while the engine is running. It jerks and hesitates (stalls the very odd time if rev's are low) because there is all of a sudden a very big block in the air passage that wasn't there a second earlier...and the ECU can't compensate that fast. It goes to N/A mode about 2 seconds afterwards.
-ECU doesn't like switching. It adapts to Boosted. Then when you switch to N/A it tries to relearn everything. Then when you go back to Boost, all the N/A values are rewritten again. Stock computer really doesn't like the change.
*My car is MAF'd so i don't know how a MAP'd car will react in this.
-Standalone is the best way to go if you are going to be switching it on and off all the time.

Mind you, running N/A then hitting the switch is a lot like nitrous. Instant power! and you can do it over and over again and never fill up a dumb bottle ;D

my ford lightning had a bypass valve that opened up when you wern't on the throttle so the sc just turned with very very little load. I do believe this is what Mista is talking about, I also believe he has used these superchargers before and is very knowlagable on this subject although I have never seen one mounted up on a engine before. +HINT HINT+

Ford uses the Eaton's with built in bypass to the blower casing......

My plate which requires a custom header, only thing holding me back right now, working with SMSP on the issue.......

The original design that cleared the stock manifold (like the one that sold on ebay!) but due to being mounted out so far it breaks the mounting bolts......

Two well known superchargers come with an electric clutch.

The Eaton M62 from the Mercedes Kompressor series and a Toyota Corrola (?) AZG??!?!?. I don't know the Toyota info cause I havent owned one, but have seen it in person as a STOCK JDM setup.

Back to the M62.

It moves .75 liter of air per revolution.

You need to have a LARGE crank pulley to get serious PSI on a motor 2.2 and larger. I am using a 7.25" crank pulley to its 3.625" pulley for a 2-1 ratio and getting only 8-10 psi with no intercooler.

When switched off, it idles PERFECTLY. The rotors simply freewheel. I still have plenty of fun with it off compared to when the SC wasnt installed at all.

I have hooked up a vacumn switch that turns the SC on when I get near 0 vacumn, ie on the gas.

I went from 100 whp ? torque to 155 whp 175 torque.

with the current Honda D series setup, we are only seeing 7-8 psi at 11-11.5K blower shaft rpm intercooled, yeah need a 2:1 drive ratio but the large clutch pulley prevents it.

Can Hondas have custom LARGE crank pullies made? Or do you have to depend upon some sort of dampener pulley? Subarus don't "need" a dampender crank pulley, so I just had a huge ass pulley milled for me.

My plan is to either go to a 2.5-1 ratio (which means a HUGE 9.25ish crank pulley), or a twin supercharger setup for 18-20 psi with front mount IC. Yeah I know turbo would be easier at that point, but it will be cool!

nothing for a D series, but if you a B.......

Fluidamper unit and have a custom pulley made.

Your looking at $800-1000 total for the damper and pulley.

Now the fun part.......AKSC at 10 psi intercooled, feeding a JRSC unit, add in a 25 hp N2O shot for cooling purposes.
