Ef turbo Issues

Ef turbo Issues
Well, before I take a big step into turboing my CRX, I'm wondering what some common problems are when turboing a CRX SI 1988. So please let me know. One thing I think is going to be a problem is the radiator and the turbo housing/manifold clearance issues. I sorta thought that you could retro fit an EG radiator into it, but if at all possible, I don't want to do that.
So please let me know before I start buying up this stuff to get it put together. Oh yeah, it's a stock CRX SI motor (D16a6).

Re:Ef turbo Issues
i got a eg radiator to fit perfectly in my ef. and when i had my full radiator in, the hf manifold with a saab t3 cleared it just fine, if your looking for some other kind of manifold, i suggest using a half size radiator

got any pics of your radiator swap? im doing the 92 rad. in my 89 on monday i would love to see some pics of it done, only thing im worried about is the lower hose, do you just completley chop the cross member up so you can get the lower hose down that far? and do you need to use a 92 lower hose or will the original reach down there? it looks easy enough to chop it up and make mounting brackets but its just that damn hose thats got me worried

Re:Ef turbo Issues
All right. Well, I'm thinking about using one of those Rank1Racing short tubular manifolds. I don't know what kind of turbo yet. All I have right now is an internally gated M11, but I'd like to get an externally gated t3 turbo. I would like to to a t3/t4, but don't think the stock motor would like it very much. So I'm guessing I'm going to be going with the EG radiator.
Now on to that, are there any cooling issues with using the EG radiator? Would it be better to get something aftermarket as far as radiators go? Koyo? CR? Something like that? Or will stock do? And what's this about the radiator hose? Things like this are useful!
Oh yeah, and I heard something about the tight fitting downpipe? Any issues with bad ones to look at? Or would it be best to find a nice custom dp?

Re:Ef turbo Issues
ummmm an aftermarket shorty rad is going to cool better for sure esp. if its a double core shorty, but the stock eg radiator will work fine for low budget purposes, but i can see that there is definitly some issues with the cross member being in the way if you want to mount it down lower instead of leaning it back......im not gonna lean it back ( and do the rock away lol ) so if nobody gets some pics up on this issue i'll be doing mine on monday and post some pics up next week on what i had to do.....

Re:Ef turbo Issues
All right. Well I'm definitely not going to want to lean it back. I want everything to look HELLA clean on this car since I'm becoming a bit more meticulous when it comes to these kind of things. So yeah, Boostedb16, post some pics up when you're done. I'll hopefully be able to get a Koyo radiator or something sometime soon and start retrofitting it into the CRX and see what comes of it. But thanks for the help guys.

Re:Ef turbo Issues
yeah but with a stock cross member the zip tie thing wont be quite so simple i will definitly build some new brackets to mount it lower, its just a matter of can i get a damn digi so i can post pics of it....hopefully i can
