EBAY turbos? T3/T4 (t40e) hybrids .... are they worth it?

Hello all,

I am a newbie to the turbo world, but I have been mechanicing for over 4 years.

I decided to enter the turbo world about 2 weeks ago, and I am in the hopes of putting together a Turbo Kit for less than 1k.

I found a lot of turbo kits on ebay that include a t3/t4 Hybrid turbo with .63a/r and .57trim...are these turbo's legit?

They do NOT say Garret or Airesearch or Turbonetics.

AutoDynasty is the company i have been looking at.

what do you guys think?

are their prices to good to be true?

I bought a turbo years ago on eBay that never boosted a pound before granading into the exhaust housing. After a $600+ rebuild I installed it and it boosted just fine.

From that I learned not to go so cheap on critical parts such as a turbo which spins at 10's of thousands of rpms.

most of those turbos will fail in the first week, they are china crap if you want a good turbo for a decent price go to,

http://www.blaastperformance.com/index.php

or get one from the junk yard and rebuild it.

Re: EBAY turbos? T3/T4 (t40e) hybrids .... are they worth it?

Has anyone had success with these turbo's purchased from one of those ebay companies within the past Year?

How about this:

Buy a cheap turbo for the housing...and get a rebuild kit...

If i get a t3/t4 (to4e) hybrid China Turbo....will a standard t3/t4 rebuild kit work on it?

You're a mechanic right? I'm a mechanic too, here's what you do:

-book mark "for sale" section
-read all the stickies in "forced induction" and "engine managment"
-check for sale section
-go to "junkyard, boneyard, auto thrift store" whatevery you call it, and get various parts.
-check for sale section
-if you can weld.... go to muffler shop and rummage through trash for pipes of different sizes
-check for sale section
-what you don't get from junkyard you buy from someone here in forsale.
-I almost forgot......post in the "wanted" section the parts you need that you can't find.

My setup is about 6-7 hundred dollars US including the price of very cheap welder, gloves, chopsaw, welding vice grips....etc....etc.

Re: EBAY turbos? T3/T4 (t40e) hybrids .... are they worth it?

lol thanks for the tips skapase.

I COULD completely ghetto the entire setup, except turbo and fuel mgmt...

but, i guess Looks does matter for me on this one.

You would be amazed by some of the things i have ghettoed at my friends shop and use of machineing tools.

Nonetheless, I purchased this a Turbo by XS Power Stone mountant racing development for 199 shipped.

what does everyone think?

Good buy?

XS Power. t3/t04e Garrett Shaft

That turbo is a gamble.I have never had one i used or installed fail nor do i know of anyone having when die prematurely on them but there is alot of stories about them blowing up on the internet so who knows.I would go for it and worst case it packs it in get it rebuilt.

Edit- I have only used XS Power/SSAutopoop ones.

Re: EBAY turbos? T3/T4 (t40e) hybrids .... are they worth it?

Yeah. it's sad but all chinese turbos are real junk.

I won't start to list down all the reason why they fail so quickly but believe me, they will.

they have been out there for years. I mean.... they could have trouble shot the ------- thing to make it better but they never did. THey keep pumping out that crap, covered with a fake warranty and when they do fail, the seller, if he still exists, tells you that you got for your money's worth and to sit on it.... >:(

what about these ones?

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/T3-T4...00303822QQrdZ1

earlier, the pic showed that it was a turbonetics housing. well, assuming that was the turbonetics logo which it did look like it

yeh ... i know it sounds dumb. But, advice is advice. And others are reading these forums too...and could use the advice.

Also, no need to comment like that. Why bash people?

To tell you the truth, I am also keeping an eye out on t3 garretts. I just decided to pick one up since i got it for $140 shipped. May as well give it a shot.

ebay turbos are a 50/50% chance of getting a good one or a bad one...good luck with yours

Re: EBAY turbos? T3/T4 (t40e) hybrids .... are they worth it?

i think id rather buy a rebuilt or reconditioned authentic garrett turbo. ive seen them for just a bit more than the china turbos.
i know a few guys who have had success with ching chong slanty eyed turbos. but you just cant ignore their reputation.

By the way, I had/have an XS Power turbo as well... or at least the compressor housing of one (that's all that's left).
