dyno'd my J-Y 1600cc 4age Corolla
I was pretty happy, 165.5 HP at 6800 RPM, 143.7 ft/lbs torque at 5000 RPM, was only making 7 psi. The goal for this trip was just to make sure I was on the right track, not to squeeze every last hp out of the engine.
The good news was this is more power than I thought I was making, and this particular dyno has a reputation of reading low. First pull proved that my O2 sensor is pretty close to useless since I had a pretty much stoich A/F ratio right across the board during the pull. After the first pull I targetted an A/F of 12 which was somewhat roughly accomplished, but it only added a couple hosepower. I then tried to lean it out basically 5% which netted a couple more horsepower. Toyota OEM NA 200mm clutch is holding the power well, although I don't know for how much longer. The bad news was I was only making 7 psi, I usually make 8+, and it took a while to get their, since my last timing adjustments the car feels better, much better at least from a streetable perspective, but the peak boost is down. It could be just the environment, when I'm street tuning I use mostly 2nd and 3rd, they did all the runs in 4th, 4th gear at 7200 rpm is way too fast for the streets around here :) The operator basically took the car up to a low load cruising speed 2800, held it for a second, then floored it. The operator suggested that probably certain areas of the map need richening up. A little more tuning, and the boost figured out and it'll be up to 180 for sure :) http://members.rogers.com/neil85ae86...82004_7psi.jpg Neil |

you my friend have some detionation from 5-7k you need to fix ::)

Pulling too much timing can make a graph look like that too.

Re:dyno'd my J-Y 1600cc 4age Corolla
A weak igniton system will do the same as well, Plugs/Wires/Cap/Rotor

Re:dyno'd my J-Y 1600cc 4age Corolla
A lousy dyno can do that as well.

Re:dyno'd my J-Y 1600cc 4age Corolla
Thanks for the input guys.
Spark could be a problem, I'm using an old coil from a 91 Escort at the JY, I also gapped the plugs down to 25 thou from 44, without even trying 44, it made sense to me doing a one off setup like this to minimize failure points ahead of time, which is why I closed up the gaps right in the beginning. I'm going to get new plugs and see if I have any spark problems with full gap, I'm hoping it will be OK, and try another coil. I don't think it's detonation, when this car detonates it's obvious. I could be pulling too much, I found that if I kept the bins a little extra retarded just prior to boost and during the first couple psi it really accelerated spool up significantly. For the upper rpms, say 4000+, I just drove around and kept advancing til I heard detonation, then backed it off a couple degrees for safety, this engine really isn't suited for boost. Neil |

Excellent choice ;)

Nice man... I love these HMT kits with the full megasquirt thing ;D
I'm going to use megasquirt for additional injector control at first on a GM DIS engine. |
