DYI Catch Can Help

O.K. After my experience with my first turbo porject "Turbo ZC" I've deiceded to turbo my new project motor " Turbo B16 " I just want to know a few things about Catch Cans. Do I really needed one since I didn't use one on my ZC and don't know if I needed one ?

Also What do I need or what parts do I need if I want to make my own Catch Can like if I went to Home Depot could I get the parts. Is all I really need is just a small can and two rubber tubes.

Also How do Catch Cans work ? I've decided to make my own catch can since I don't have much money left after buying parts since I'm making my own kit again since DRAG , Rev Hard , etc. and all other companies are over priced and junk for EF's with B series motors.

But after buying internals for my other B16 block and turbo parts my budget is small now so I'd like to make my own. Thanks to everyone for helping me out with this.

no, you dont per say need a catch can. alls a catch can does is trap any extra oil that got by from the crank case vent on its way back into your intake. to make a realllly cheap one...you can always take a soup can with like tomato soup or somethin really thin inside it...punch a small hole (maybe 1/4" or slightly bigger) in the top... let the ---- drain out. clean it out best you can. then punch another hole next to that one. using a tap, enlarge those 2 holes into 1/4" NPT threaded holes or somethin similar . then just screw in a 1/4" NPT barb into each one or whatever thread size you chose. the barb size can be whatever will work for the size hose your using, as long as the thread is the same as what you just tapped with. then just hook the can inline with the hose comming from your crank case vent to your intake. thats it...should cost you about 10 bucks assuming the tap you use costs maybe 7 bucks or so. ;)

A friend of mine used a coke bottle as a catch can...

anybody have pictures of this installed? I put a fancy autozone filter on my valve cover instead of that line, is that where a catch can would have gone?

No.
A catch can in connected to the hose that comes out of your crankcase...it's from the plastic box under the oil filter. The plastic box is like a filter for the crankcase oil that comes out.
