pretty much, other than a few laws and procedures you have to know, it's not very complicated. you did leave out the most important step though, evacuation, or vacuum the system for at least 30mins after re-installation. and a bunch of other bullshit.

i fi were you i would look into a slightly bigger turbo. i had a 99 civic with th eY8 motor in it and i felt that the t25 spooled too quick and dropped off way too soon. i ended up just upgradeing to a .42/.48 T3 from a Saab and was happier. only bad thing is that if you want to upgrade later then you have to buy a whoel new manifold because of the differant flange that the T25 has compared to the T3.

Actually that was my plan from the beginning. I found a really good deal on a whole kit and the only part the guy bought used was the turbo and manifold. I was just gonna use that turbo for awhile until I made enough money to finish off some bills and buy a new one. I was thinking along the lines of a t28. I've heard they're very fast spoolers and have good high end torque. thanks for the info though.

A 14b bolts up the same and is way bigger than the DSM T2small. That turbo falls on its face almost instantly. Fast spool is pointless when you have no top end. Even better would be a 16g. Any bigger an you have to external gate. Even a $120 used 14b will still be loads more fun and only spool a little later. It doesn't fall on its face nearly at all at stock wastegate levels, but at higher boost and rpm's it still will a bit. The 16g is a damn fine street turbo for a smaller 4cylinder and won't fall off until super high rpm's and a ---- ton of psi. If your goals are sub 300whp the 16g will make those without even trying and doesn't lag nearly at all. Full boost around 3k rpm, but it spools way sooner; almost instant.

The only issue I see with you choosing a DSM turbo is that they are water and oil cooled center sections and you're only going to be oil cooling so that could lead to premature wear. My guess is you won't be running too high of boost, so as long as you're smart with the turbo it'll hold up fine. I definitely recommend stepping up to a TD05H Mitsu turbo though. It bolts on exactly the same as the little Garrett T25 you already have. You may have to get a J-pipe, but those are cheap and abundant just like MHI turbos.

thats all very good information. I appreciate it. Like I said before, i think im gonna try this turbo out until I save enough money to buy a different one. but I will give all of those a thought. lots of possibilities. who ever said that I wasn't gonna be cooling it with coolant? and most likely im only going to run 9psi cause right now it's my daily driver. I don't really have any goals for this project, main thing is to get everything working reliably and have something a little more fun to drive than stock.


here's a pic of my car, speaking of performance... suspension, full exhaust, and header(which will be replaced) any other suggestions besides a turbo? this pic isn't the most recent, it was taken back in the spring, only minor changes since then.

u dont have to water cool the turbo ......just dont rape it for the last 2-3min of ur drive.

wouldnt the HF manifold allw you to keep your ac?
