DSM boy turned HMT guy?! what?
ok, so Im probably going to receive a never ending stream of ---- from jeff about how I've "gone to the dark side" but while Im building up my DSM I purchaced an innocent little 91 Civic DX 4 dr. So just for ***** I go and see what engines will go into it. low and behold the d16z6 bolts right in and mates to the transmission..well the is just too easy, no wonder everyone has a honda!!
anyways, I really got to thinking and decided that the 40 hp Id get from the SOHC Vtec swap wouldn't be enough. then I realise that I have all the stock turbo stuff from the DSM. then the little light bulb in my head lights up. the goal is less than $1000 including the cost of the d16z6
Heres what I Have:
14b
DSM SMIC
1g DSM BOV
Heres what I need:
d16z6
HF manifold, with adapter
Oil/water lines
Piping
and heres what Im unsure of:
I only want to run like 5 psi, as its a daily driver. Im wondering if its better to go the carb spring method or the lengthening of the WG arm to get the boost low enogh. Also I don't have my 450cc injectors anymore, so what are my fueling options? am I pretty much limited to ghetto FMU style? not really 100% comfortable with that (12:1 FMU + 5 PSI= 60 additional psi of fuel pressure!) and are their any REALLY simple/cheap tuners/loggers out there (I REALLY would at least like to be able to monitor knock and timing.)
so yeah, I feel that some of My DSM knowledge may actually be standing in my way here. Im a total FNG when it comes to hondas too so be gentle

Re:DSM boy turned HMT guy?! what?
thanks for the info; If I have to I can yank the SAFC out of the Talon and use it, but I really don't want to, thats why I was thinking FMU. what are good, cheap FMU options? the only ones I've heard of are the Vortech's, but then again, Im used to an ECU thats ready for boost : )
Just one more quick Question: In my experience with the 14b, even with the WG fully open it makes about 7psi. will this be lower because its being used on a much smaller, 1.6l d16z6 as opposed to my 2.0l 4g63? and will 5psi be a decent ammount of boost? seems kinda low now that I really think aobut it. (Im used to about 18psi on the talon.)

I'll chime in on this,
I was running 5PSI and on my d16y7 and it was great, BUT, after about a month I wanrted more, and 8PSI is better. Keep in mind the fact that once you experience 5 you are going to want to turn up the boost, and you may outgrow your FMU.

I think you're going to crank the boost up and that FMU isn't going to be the correct selection. You haven't even installed it yet and you are thinking 5 psi is too low. Just think when you have it installed. You're going to want to push that turbo and the motor to the limits. Go with the AFC.

Re:DSM boy turned HMT guy?! what?
Wombat, you don't happen to have a white Talon with a fully built stroker motor, 100hp shot nitrous, huge turbo...and if you do, I know who you are And if you are then just to let you know that my CRX will take your Talon anyday. That's right, once you finish putting it back together let me know so you can have your *** handed back to you
Also, the 11 second Miata is coming for you!!! You know whom I mean.
