dsm bov sucking in air ?

heh i noticed something tonight while i was tinkering, my dsm bov sucks in at idle and when i give gas it sucks in a whole lot... is she dead ?

edit : sucks in from where it releases the air

yea it should be just barely open at idle, then if you hit the throttle it should go down and when you let off it will come farther up, then back to barely open....is that what you're talking about

no at idle it is going to be all the way open, the farther you push down on the gas the more its going to close. at idle you are at like 20psi vaccuum pressure, and the more the throttle body opens the less your vaccuum gets until you hit boost then it closes.

Hmm... mine seemd to only be open slightly at idle when I first bought my car. But that was on a crushed bov, which probably made a little difference. It's the one that has now managed to make it onto a few different turbo setups here in the TC. The ever so famous silencer drilled 1g bov!

A correctly functioning DSM BOV will suck in air at idle (or any time you're producing vacuum) and will close under boost. There is a classic movie somewhere on this site where 89sipimpin hooked up a condom to his dsm bov, and after it builds boost then blows off it blows up the rubber and pops O0

Brownie points to whoever can find the movie.

it's actually a bypass valve and will be slightly open. Same thing with the Volvo and Saab one. There was a write-up about using a large one way valve on the end for systems that needed them to circulate.
