drunkinmasters $300 teal civic thread. 56k go fist a firefox. now with video

well the vitara 4 door has been no moor since about march of last year.

http://img222.imageshack.us/img222/467/dscn0916qu3.jpg

merging onto the highway with a nail in the rear tire has some pretty disastrous affects.

http://img103.imageshack.us/img103/5121/dsc00031ed1.jpg

add a nice amount of rain and you get this....

afro puff steering wheel.

http://img266.imageshack.us/img266/290/dsc00047gc0.jpg

and a shot of the bent frame just for carnage sakes :)

http://img337.imageshack.us/img337/8978/dsc00050qr2.jpg

so anyways the front end was bent to ----. so that was it for the sedan.

the motor and turbo setup was pretty much fine except for that crushed u-bend.
after about 6 months of looking for a donor car for the motor i found this $300 civic dx on craigslist.
it had some front end damage, the motor wouldnt run very long. but the body was strait and the kids mom wanted it out.

not bad for $300. the color wasnt my favorite at the time.
interior was in very good condition.
the unnecessity's like power steering, power windows, power mirrors, ac weren't there.

and the motor and turbo setup going into the donor.

TIME TO GET TO WORK!!
http://www.wayodd.com/funny-pictures...zy-man-0Xz.jpg

1st thing i did was the tach swap since the dx didnt even have a tachometer.
the sedan had something like 300,000 miles on the odometer, so i swapped the mileage while i was at it.

http://img403.imageshack.us/img403/7216/cimg0485jx9.jpg

getting the intercooler ready for mockup.
you can get a better idea on how bent the radiator support was on the sedan.
http://img187.imageshack.us/img187/1531/cimg0486fa4.jpg

i found out why the kids car wasnt running for more than a few minutes.
crankpully was all whobbley and cock sloppy. it caused the alternator belt to slip off into the sunset. :1
the z6 seemed to start and idle just fine. just a nice little bonus.
transmission was an a000 though

ryan89crx was nice enough to come bye with his cherrypicker for the motor swap. ive never swapped a motor before so having his much needed guidance was extremely helpfull. ryan gets the z6 that we ended up yanking out of the coupe.
http://img262.imageshack.us/img262/3452/cimg0509xm0.jpg

the motor swap went fairly ok.
when we finally got the linkage and a few other hoses and wires out of the way, it was time to yank out the z6 from the teal coupe and the vitara motor from the sedan.

with the z6 out of the way it was finally time for the transplant.
dropping the vitara motor inn was surprisingly easier than when we pulled either of the motors out.
http://img176.imageshack.us/img176/4189/cimg0511zt3.jpg

and the sedan as she sits right now without any motor. parts are scattered throughout my garage making it an obstacle course.
http://img339.imageshack.us/img339/8690/cimg0512kn0.jpg

after this point it was time chill out for the evening. Both Ryan and I were beat by the end of the day.
we pulled 2 motors, and dropped one in. plus we ran to sears at the mall for a socket. i forgot about the holiday rush.
i brought my plumbing van and parked where the mall utility vehicles usually park acting like we had a leaky toilet to fix.
beat to hell. time to enjoy a hearty porter
http://img339.imageshack.us/img339/7587/cimg0513uk8.jpg

now it was time to wire up the v-tak up.
i started by grabbing one of the ecu plugs from the sedan to rob the pins.
http://img265.imageshack.us/img265/7475/cimg0517kz4.jpg
http://img526.imageshack.us/img526/6779/cimg0520sv2.jpg

and use a tiny screw driver to wiggle the pin loose from the other side while you pull the pin loose. it takes a bit of time but eventually will work out.
http://img442.imageshack.us/img442/1959/cimg0521fg6.jpg

http://img176.imageshack.us/img176/7393/cimg0527nx8.jpg

heres where i screwd up though. the pinouts that are needed are for a4 and d6. well d6 has a smaller pin than the ones that i pulled. so i had to go etract a smaller pin from the d- plug.
http://img149.imageshack.us/img149/7909/cimg0528wu3.jpg

smaller pins where much more of a bitch to pull out so i used my harbor freight pin extractor

http://img175.imageshack.us/img175/8331/cimg0548yv7.jpg

i also swapped the rear suspension. kyb agx struts with skunkworks coilovers.

new lsd clutch to replace my clutchmasters 4 puck
http://img161.imageshack.us/img161/4695/cimg0568nc6.jpg

the tranny in my sedan was always a bitch to shift. i figured since i was yanking the tranny for a new clutch just to replace it with a new y8 transmission.
pulling the old z6 transmission apart i found out why it was so hard to shift.
the channel that the shift arm shaft goes through was somehow ground or crushed causing it to be very hard to shift.
http://img443.imageshack.us/img443/4561/cimg0587mf8.jpg

time to swap the differential in the newer y8 transmission with an obx lsd

i got the tranny swapped inn and the car on all 4 wheels. it felt good to see it off jackstands. front end needs a major alignment

mocking up the bumper. that blue coupling will eventually go for stealth/sleeper reasons.
http://img259.imageshack.us/img259/6796/cimg0674sa7.jpg

i finally got the balls to go out and try to paint my fendors and bumper myself.
napa sold me the paint for around $110, i bought a gravity feed spray gun from harbor freight for $20.
considering that maaco said it would cost me $500, i think it was well worth it.
ive never sprayed before so the end result actually turned out better than i expected so im not complaining.
http://img440.imageshack.us/img440/5901/cimg0692xa7.jpg

http://img440.imageshack.us/img440/3295/cimg0690og2.jpg

i left the bumper factory black in the grill to help hide the intercooler a bit better.
can you say stealth?
http://img79.imageshack.us/img79/4641/cimg0691di0.jpg

oh, and i also got some falken hanabi rims with some falken rubber. rims are only 11 pounds each.
i wanted oem rims but ricers want to sell them for much more than i could afford. the rims that i got + rubber cost me around $500
http://img79.imageshack.us/img79/5729/cimg0693ir3.jpg

hood on and wheels are aligned. wheel alignment is probably some of the best $60 spent.
http://img90.imageshack.us/img90/6545/cimg0694jk7.jpg

i finally mig welded the exhaust together. it sounds damn quiet for being all 3'' with no cats.
heres some pics and a video of how it sounds.

thats pretty much where i sit right now. the car needs a retune so the next thing on my list is a wideband.
im considering the JAW wideband. joey-d has some tunning to do within a week or 2 with this unit and is going to let me know wither its worth it or not.
otherwise its either an lc1 or plx

nice job why didnt you just get a new support or the actual frame rail bent.. (dont look like to me ) but nice job reminds me of swapping out the buld D from the ---- hatch into the coupe cuz ---- hatch had a bent frame (roof above door) from a drink driving accident in eagle, idaho i jumped off a small cliff still fixed the car and drove back to cali

id basically need a whole new front clip. with the cost and labor of a new front clip it seemed that a $300 car to swap a motor inn was the easier way.
id have to yank the motor for a new front clip anyways.

i do miss the sedan. but the dx coupe is about 300 pounds lighter, and the interior is in much better shape.
i really wasnt in a position to argue with myself. when i saw a $300 coupe i jumped at it.
ive also made some improvements over what was in the sedan.
even though the coupe might not be as visually aesthetic i could really care less.
sedan will rip.
in the end im happy with the results. now its time for that retune
