Downpipe Fabrication Probs
Ok, My entire kit is ready to go on this week, by thursday the latest. I started calling diffrent muffler shops to get price quotes on a custom downpipe. All I heard all day was BS!!! I was told by some places a down pipe would cost 150 by others I heard they couldnt do it and Midas tells me that they wont make one because it requires mandrel bends which they dont have. I have 2 u bends just for my down pipe and told him and was told they couldnt warrenty the work w/ my pipes. WTF is going on! It cant be that hard to make a ------- DP, especially for profesionals. I have a guy who does all my welding and will make the pipe for me but he lives 1/2 an hour from my house. I was also told by alot of the shops to mount the turbo first and then drive it or tow it 2 them and they give me any answer if they could do it then. How loud will the car be w/ just the manifold, turbo, and o2 housing mounted. Maybe Ill just drive the half hour to my boys place for my down pipe. Anyone got any ideas? Are all these places feeding me ----? How much should I pay for a downpipe if I need 2 flanges but bring the piping? Thanx.

I know alot of people that just drive there cars to the exhaust shop. It will be loud but just stay out of boost and you should be alright. Don't know how much a downpipe should be but I got a full exhaust made for $200 so it should be way less than that. Hope this helps.

find you just a little exhaust shop, not some big name like midas, or meineke, and ---- like that, just some guy that has a shop out back and they'll do anything you need, just call the smallest adds in the phone book, cause those are the cheap bastards. i got a guy i always go to and he'll do anything i want for cheap as hell.

i just went to a meineke that was local and owner/operator. guy was cool as sh#t. i just brought him the mandrel bends and turbine outlet flange and he did the rest. he thought it was cool, even though he was a muscle car guy. i just had to leave my car with him wait a few days while he did a little bit between all the other jobs. he would stay 'til 8-9 each night working on cars. he kept my car up on the lift inside at night locked up and didn't charge that much. he also welded my bov flange too. coolest guy and very patient.
