Down pipe

I need a down pipe for my prelude h22. I know a muffler shop can do it but they will need my car there. I emailed REV hard and a few other companies who sell kits for my car and they havnt responded. Anyone know a good company I can buy a decent downpipe for my lude
Thanks

Re:Down pipe

Re:Down pipe

just make sure theres nothiing plastic in the path of the exhaust. thats how i melted my fan :'(

Re:Down pipe

this is for an internal gate right?....just making sure you arent driving there without a wg...

EdgeminSH 02-12-2004 07:11 AM

Re:Down pipe

it will be an external wastegate. Is that still ok?

street_kings 02-12-2004 06:29 PM

Re:Down pipe

if you got an external gate, make sure you have a dumptube or something. if you dont, then the exhaust will spit straight out to your fans, and plastic likes to melt when your exhaust gas gets sprayed on it.

depends on his manifold...anyway, driving without your dp (if youre using a blockoff flange and dont put it on) will just cause you not to boost since its like having your internal gate open

Re:Down pipe

What if i put the block off flange on where the wastegate is supposed to go and just dont boost at all on the way to the garage? Bad idea?

traff1c 02-12-2004 10:34 PM

Re:Down pipe

if you block that off... wouldnt that mean all your exhaust will have to go through the turbine... i think this would mean your turbo will be spinning mad crazy...

just get a friend who can weld.... or rent a welder.... and buy some mandrel bends.... precut everything..... then go out and rent the welder....

thats what i did.... cost me like 50... 20$ for the rental... and like 30 for materials...

turboboy 02-13-2004 10:07 AM

Re:Down pipe

im assuming he meant block off where the internal was and use his external, which is fine. the dp doesnt matter

Re:Down pipe

Just disconnect a charge pipe if you are worried about boosting on the way to the exhaust shop...

not a good idea, it will make your turbo go crazy

Re:Down pipe

Call a tow truck if you dont want to do it yourself how far is the exhaust shop

remember this Quote berofe you do everything
"Pay a little now or a lot later"

EdgeminSH 02-13-2004 01:00 PM

Re:Down pipe

oh yea i know all about that quote. what i think i will do is... put the external waste gate on, hook everything up and drive to the exhaust shop. and never boost high enough for the wastegate to open. Good or bad?

Re:Down pipe

I'm so glad I don't have to worry about this problem.

There is a good muffler shop, literally, like 4 blocks from my house. ;D

Re:Down pipe

have them weld one of the bends onto the exhaust flange pointing down. clamp some muffler tubing onto it so it exits near the ground. drive there and stay out of boost. have em finish it when you get there.

turboboy 02-13-2004 07:09 PM

Re:Down pipe

the wg dumping onto your ---- wont have any effect right away....hook it up, drive normal. but if you dont put the blockoff plate where your turbo used to have an internal gate (if it did), then you wont get any boost...just letting you know so you dont freak out

Re:Down pipe

hit up www.lovefab.com they might be able to make something up for ya without the car there and for relatively low cost......if not u could always use flex pipe or just drive it there without one to get made...

that would cost a shitload of money imo, and i doubt they could do it unless he had one of their manifolds or a big-name brand one

Re:Down pipe

what im actually going to do is get a BIG U pipe that i made my intercooler piping out of... cut it all and make a down pipe that will fit. Then lable the order they go in and tape them together, and take it to a muffler shop and have it welded. That a good idea? or is the chance of it getting messed up to great? thanks for all the replys guys

Re:Down pipe

tape them together?

EdgeminSH 02-16-2004 02:44 AM

Re:Down pipe

tape the pipe together exactly how it fits.. than take the PIPE in a different car to the shop.
not drive the car with tape on it for a down pipe. haha sorry for not specifing
