Do's and Dont's for turboing a civic?

So I got into this whole import tunning about 2 years ago... I wanted to get into some serious boosting, so I turned to turbos. But now more and more learning I do about this stuff it makes it harder and harder to understand what and what not to do. so turned to you guys at HMT to see if you had some ideas on what to do and what to make sure on so that my engine doesn't blow up... like Jeff's first project. What I have in my hands right now is a 94 civic dx, stock engine, garrett t3 turbo, and a POS intercooler that I think I may have to ebay it b/c it's way to big for the front bumper. Could you guys give me sume sites or names of books that show the interlas and externals of turbo building? Thanx, Ed ;D And last, but not least, what problems did you guys encounter when droping a turbo into a d-series engine?

the biggest problem ANY turbo engine sees is detonation because of a too lean mixture. Good fuel mngmt is a must.

But I also heard that I have to watch out for my compressions b/c if I put to much boost into that puppy and don't change my compression ratio the car could detonate also. By the way thanx for that book. Have you heard anything good about the High Performance Honda Builder's Handbook?

Looks like either a civic with a bodykit, or a skyline

Re:Do's and Dont's for turboing a civic?

high comp doest make deternation, it just make's it harder to tune with less margin for error.most race honda's still keep stock or higher comp ,even when running 20+psi.But thats with good piston, rods etc.
"honda/acura performance ' is a pretty good book,with a how build a 10 sec civic section.

Yea that's a Civic with a body kit and the skiline front conversion kit. what's the easiest way about getting a good, but not expensive turbo... b/c I got a T3 turbo off of E-bay, but the turbo itself is in bad condition. Damn e-bayers

check out www.superhonda.com, register an account if you don't have one, and go to the fi section, read as much as you can, and read uoboarder's noob section, buy those magazines and read them, I haven't yet, but I'm sure they help.

yeah the honda builders handbook sucks. Just get on message boards and read everything you can but take it all as a grain of salt untill you can tell diff between right/wrong info. No one learned this stuff overnight

Finding someone Turbo'd near you is a big help when doing your project.
Also using the search on the forum is a big help because any question you think of, most likely has been asked before.

Re:Do's and Dont's for turboing a civic?

check out the faq in here, and look for the link that says how to put on a turbo kit, that's the page that helped me alot, the prices are all way too low and it uses an fmu which isn't the best way to tune, but it will help you visualize where everything goes and it tells you all the parts you need other then fuel management.
