does the ebay manual boost controllers really work?
thats my 1 dollar questions, anyone? I have a 14b, as everyone knows they have internal wastegate set to 8 or 10psi from the factory, my block is fucked up, one of the head bolt's hole has no thread, I dont know what to do with it, I dont want my head to be lifting up so id like to boost like 5 psi only, using a manual boost controller.
what would be a good idea? Maybe u guys have an idea for me to fix this block, its a d16z6 engine on a 88 crx.
I bought this engine at the junk yard, the car was hit very hard, it was an automatic civic coupe ex, i went ahead and bought the engine, when i took it apart i saw this problem, no thread on one of the holes on the block, and the bolt next to it, was and oversized bolt with a bigger thread and a nut with a washer since the bolt was bigger, I dont know what the last "mechanic" used to do this ghetto thing but it is working since i applied 44lbs to that bolt with no problem.
I know i asked two question in one post, but i really need help from you guys, I have everything here to boost and im in hold because of this problem with the block.
Anyways, would the head lift with 5 psi? I put 44lbs to the rest of the head bolts.

the boost controler is going to do nothing but up the presure. maybe you could drill thoes broken bolts out and rethread them. because if that head lifts up whilr your driving your going to have coolent and ---- and fire shooting out of it oh man it would look sweet. go get a video camrea. take the waste gate off. and just rev it until it blows. record the whole thing. then put another motor in
dude i don`t even think the engine will hold up N/A without one bolt.it`s going to warp, not even talking about boosted.
not sure if it is fixable, but i remember someone fixed his with heli-coil a week or so ago...
not even worth a try man..imagine after all thos ehard work and broken backbone. you found out it won`t work and decided you need to take it out again.

the boost controller will only allow you to increase boost and not drop it below the level that is set by the internal wastegate.
But the real question is do they work and how well do they work?

the guy that said take it to a machine shop was right. if you give a ---- about this car at all, you should pull it and have a shop clean out the hole(s) and heli coil it properly. then, stud it. seriously. spend the $200 it will take, and you will be happy with it. dont drill it out and retap it. please. you will have to drill the hole through the head bigger, and it wont be right. just dont do it.
please.
please.
I've learned the hard way in life with just about everything. But with cars, I've learned alot quicker to do it right the firsat time. Wait a little longer if you have to. But it'll be wayyy worth it.
I posted this in the thread of the dude that did the Helicoil.
HTS-2000 aluminum brazing rod
Watch the video.. It looks like cool stuff. I've never actually used it, but for the $75 it will cost to get some, I'd consider that over the other alternatives. All you need is a torch and you can fix it yourself.
