Re:do you need turbo timer?

I got the Apexi turbo timer and I would reccomend it to anybody. Its the best investment you can make. It displays voltage, A/F ratio and o2 voltage. Its a much better investment that those gay autometer gauges that just show colors. $90 can't beat it

thanks for all the info but no one has as told me anythng about one of my question

Re:do you need turbo timer?

Why not get it. I'm always in a hurry and I have no time to wait for my turbo to cooldown. I paid $80 for a GReddy timer shipped. That is not bad IMO. It's just more convenient for me. I dont like taking the risk.

Let me put it this way, what if you were driving for the past 30+ miles pretty fast and suddenly you have to take a ----. Would you sit on your car to wait for your turbo to cool down and ---- yourself in your car or let the timer do its thing and so you can run to the nearest toilet........... to each, his own

yes.
my mr2 came with an apex timer, but i shut it off.
2 reasons:

1. i noticed that the time it took me from getting into a parking lot to finding a parking spot was more than enough time out of boost to let anything cool off.

2. i've read some tests by engineers who used k-type thermocouples to track the temperature drop in the turbine housing and center section after shut down. there wasn't any significant difference in temperature in the center section until 17 minutes AFTER the engine had been shut off. granted, it's best to keep the engine running for the oil supply to the center section so it doesn't coke right away, but since the temperature isn't changing for a good 15 minutes after hard driving anyway, if it's gonna coke, it's gonna coke no matter how long you let it time out.
oil technology is also more advanced than ever. if you run synthetic oil (which you should be doing in a turbo'd car anyway), it's not going to coke.

my $0.02

Isnt it also true that if you have an oil/water cooled turbo like a DSM t25 for example you need a TT even less? Thats why they added the water cooling right?

Re:do you need turbo timer?

you could also get an accumlator that pushes oil throught your turbo if the engines on or off. the one i have on my car holds 1.5 quarts of oil that pushes it through the turbo after the car is shut off. the come stock on sum turboed cars like porsche's but good luck finding one in a junk yard.

Re:do you need turbo timer?

yea definately a good investment and definately trips a lot of people out, good to have and could save your turbo over the years.. most people forget to time their ----, not even a matter of the time waiting there.. just remembering
