No, but it is recommended. I would if I were you.

Yes you need one. If you don't have a BOV, then whenever you close the throttle plate (let off the gas), you will get compressor surge, this causes cavitaiton/vibrations, severely shortening the life of your turbo. You would probobly be blowing a turbo up every few thousand miles if you don't have one.

no you don't need one. Yes the lifespan of your turbo will be greater. But probably not that much. Everybody tend to think at 10psi it is NEEDED, but look at how many Real Motors pushing 40 some pound of boost don't have a BOV. Mind ya, there are only running for sub-8sec at a time and only shifter 2-3 times.

 

Just never take your foot out of it. Run around town WOT at all times.

 

cheap insurance. i'd get it if i were you. dsm 1st gen bov. cheap, plentiful and effective.
