alright i got a question, i dont feel like getting a catch can and all that ---- so would it be alright if i just ran the crank case vent to turbo inlet and stuck a oil separator.

With the price of that kit I wouldn't see why you wouldnt just do it right and make your own catch can. Pretty much there is no way to get around modifing your PCV setup without using a catchcan. Either you run a vented catch can or you run a sealed catchcan while utilzing the beroulli effect catch can. I did my entire setup with the sealed catch can for under $100.

isnt the oil separator the samething as a catch can?

the aircompresor filter is only $10

Im wondering if you really need a different pcv system for low boost (6-8lbs)... if your not in boost for long periods of time.

Re: DIY Two Way PCV System How-To (HoMedepoT style)

If your PCV valve fails than you run the risk of pressurizing the crankcase. Than you will have opposing pressure on the top and bottom of the piston...not a good thing. Don't risk your engine for under $100 to do it 100% correct. you can do it for like $30 if you really want to. No point to risk what you got for such cheap $$$.

So heres a quick 5 minute diagram of the proper setup according to Projekteg, Its the same as fook's original idea, but with a check valve on the vent hose between the T-fitting and the IM.

Attachment 21373

It makes perfect sense to me, but I'm new to this....Can someone with uncontrollable knowledgablilities tell me if this setup is right? Will it work with proper check valves that wont leak?

Re: DIY Two Way PCV System How-To (HoMedepoT style)

For those of you asking a catch can set-up should just be considered part of your turbo set-up, period. I just ignored the oil leaks on my car since I've got it until a few days ago, when every oil seal in the car broke (loosing 1.5 quarts every hour) and I was only at 9 psi on cold, cold days. Oh, well at least I get to replace the autozone special clutch while I'm there.

here is my setup

can

https://www.homemadeturbo.com/attach...-style-occ.jpg notice its baffled so it actually does something O0 lol the key is to get it to reverse direction and slow down

the routing of the lines

https://www.homemadeturbo.com/attach...chcansetup.jpg
notice the 90* angles in the intake it helps force air where its supposed to go and draw it out of the can

i think it would work great in both boost and vac, here is the reason for PROVIDING air to the valve cover and not drawing it out, in order to draw air out it has to come in somewhere so here is how PCV syhstem works stock, my system works like stock :)

I've written an article on crank case ventilation here :

DIYEFI.org Forum - View topic - Crank Case Ventilation

Please be as critical as you can be (Trust HMT, sure can!), I'm interested to see the information and formatting etc be as good as possible. I hope it helps people in the future :-)

turboknightmare 04-15-2009 02:42 AM

these catch can setups drive me crazy, whats the simplest most effective way to do it once I go boost?

boostcreepin 04-24-2009 05:15 PM

^ ---- simple, when u got the right way in front of u.

turbo750 06-03-2009 07:44 PM

what are the best one way valves to use?

That exhaust thing wont work if u hav a cat. we need to use some kind of vanturey(sorry spelt wrong) system. use exhaust to make vac. see what i can come up with.

teewakahn 02-15-2010 06:52 PM

PVC system.

weld in a metal slash cut tube. and attach the hose as far away as you can. they also make a high temp hose that would help in this application. either way you need to use a metal slash cut tube. make sure you put a check valve in this line aswell.

that would only work if it was set up after the cat. would'nt it?

that would hav to be after the cat would'nt it?

Dustyvip 11-28-2010 03:42 PM

I have a catch can set up for my rocker cover which is working fine
But i want too fit a catch can for the bottem end now

i will have one feed from the black box(no PCV) and one feed from one of the oil plugs at the back/bottem of the block too the can

Do i need too put a vacuum line from the turbo intake too the can or just put a small filter on the can so that it can go in too the atmosphere?
