Default DIY PORT AND POLISH????....... scary stuff?????

hey guys, i did a little search and have been reading up a little on diy port and polishing ..... well let me give u a litle run down on what i am planning .....

well pretty much doing a junkyard turbo using a std manifold on a d15b2 .... i know weve been through its a week motor .. but hey, its not my daily driver, and i have the block i might as well use it for a while ... even if it lasts for 6 months while i get some 1.6 stuff together....

so ive been reading about diy port and polishing and some of it seems prety easy.... as far as porting out the head to the exhaust/intake gaskets and port matching the intake mani and blending every thing in 1 to 1.5 inches down the runners......

now before i even go any farther, will this portmaching and minor porting give me any gains i have the time ... is it worth it ... i dont want to do it if it yeilds 0 hp .... but hell, if u guys think it may pull even 2 ponies out, i would give it a shot ...

now after reading i get a little scared of going any further down into the runners near the valves... is this real hard to do right what should i be looking for in there?

also the combustion chamber .... am i to understand that this is done just like matching the intake mani gasket to the head, and boring to it...but using the head gasket to do it

is there something that i could mess up doing this?? is it posible that it would cause more detonation, making the condition worse?, and is it posible to screw up to the point that the head would not properly seal to the headgasket/block?

would you guys recoment me not doing any of this? i mean, all good porters have to start somewhere right?

Where did you read this at? I would like to give it a try. But i have heard that if it's not done right you can lose hp. I don't know if that's true or not but would also like some info on this thread and where i could read up on learn to do this.

Have you read this yet?

http://www.sa-motorsports.com/diyport.htm

Also, Grassroots motorsports did a nice article on DIY porting. At one point, someone had scanned the article and it was available in a bunch of image files. I have it on one of my computers somewhere. If I find it, I'll make it a PDF and post it up.
