Difficulty of Turboing
 

theres nothing more that i want than turboing my CRX. however, honestly, im a little nervous bout starting into a big project like this. in your guys' opinions, since yall are on homemadeturbo, how hard is it to make this work from start to finish? is it too much to take on for a fairly amateur tuner. thanks for your advice.

I just finished my project and it was fairly easy. And Cheap! Here are my suggestions:
First, do research on what you need and the prices.
Then, make sure you have all of the necessary items before starting, don't rush the project, and don't get discouraged once started and you run into problems (everyone here will help you out).
Also, find others at HMT that are in your area.

i agree, take your time with it until you feel confident that you canhandle the task. its definately worth it! i think now the hardest part is controling myself so that i wont turn up the boost past ten psi!

You can do it peice by peice too.
One day mount the IC
another day run the oil/water lines ( plugging them of course ).
One day mock up the IC piping.
ONE day install fuel manigment and maybe injectors
And set aside an entire weekend to doing it and tuning it.

You get the idea.

i agree day by day is good. that is what i did.
but piece by piece is tough. if you have to wait for shipping from ebayers and online stores. it could be some time. if you have all the parts, some days you could do more if time permits.

01 fo = 2001 ford focus.

piece by piecee means u can install and mount an intercooler just dont hook it up to anything just let it sit there. u can mount the turbo to the manifold. make some pipings from the IC around to the engine bay. bolt an FMU to the firewall.. then one weekend tie it all together.

I think the hardest part would be charge piping. Custom or HMT.

Don't get intimidated. I planned rather well and was sure I knew my ---- before I started, and It took me no more than two days of wrenching from start to finish. Just make sure you know and have read everything you can get your soon to be boostfed hands on and go for it. Good luck!

once you get going its nothing is as hard as it seems.
it also is nice if you have a car while the one you're turbocharging is gettin worked on :)
