difference between stage 1 and stage 3 turbine wheel

I know that stage 3 turbine wheel is bigger and it has differnt trim than stage 1 wheel and it should be able to flow more exhaust gases but the reason I am asking this is because on blaast berformance's page it is stated that Garrett T3/T04E 60 trim - with stage 1 wheel can support 200-475 HP and the same turbo with stage 3 wheel 200-450 HP. Shouldn't be the different way?

sound weird to me.. maybe spool?

yes i believe that would be a difference in spool time. stage1 early, stage3 late.....let blaast chime in on this to make sure

If i remember correctly, stage three supports more horsepower spools a little later and boost comes in more graudually

Yes, larger turbine impellers will flow more exhaust than smaller ones....and of course spool up slower (more gradually) but you can still make them spool OK with Lower A/R's.
i don't have much experience in using unusually large turbine wheels because people rarely opt for this more expensive turbo choice. But i still made a few attemps and got only positive results.

i recently installed on a V6 maxima a P trim 0.48 a/r and the results are impressive!! (oh well, clutch is gone!)

i personnally used last summer a P trim 0.58 a/r turbine on a forged h22. Very special behavior. Not your everydays stage 3, 0.63ar !!..
boost came in early but gradually. No violent power surge.. felt just like a big V8!! pushed very strong to top end even at 20 psi! >:D

To blaast:
I am interested in one of your turbos... It is Garrett T3/T04E 50 trim with stage 1 wheel and 0.63/0.50 A/Rs. I see that it can suport up to 450 HP and that is what I need. I plan to use it as on every day car so it will be driven on lower boosts for normal drive and on max boost on weekend drag races. I am interested will it be able to swallow 100 hp of nitrous on top of 450 hp thru stage 1 wheel? The main reason why I am not considering stage 3 wheel is budget :-\...

Yeah while the t04e 50 trim CAN support as much as 450 HP MAx, it's a compressor that is mostly efficient from 160 to 400 HP. If you want 450+ HP for sure, get a bigger compressor.

also stage one 0.63a/r will make it spool nice but 400+ HP is asking a lot to a stage 1 wheel IMO.

If I was you, I would get a stage 3 t04e 57 or t04b H trim or a BORG RHB62 and if you are on a budget, ditch that nitrous instead.

This borgwarner rhb62 sounds intresting...At what rpm would I have spool on 2.0 16v engine with it, and what would be max power on 7500 rpm? Do you have some maps of that turbo?

Re: difference between stage 1 and stage 3 turbine wheel

the borg spools ok on most engines with at least 150 hp (atmospheric)

it's super efficient from 200 to 400 HP and can be pushed to 500hp.

I have no flow chart. borgwarner don'T disclose this info like garrett do.
