diesel people, i need some advice nsfw

ok, my dad has a ford f350 w/ the 7.3 powerstroke diesel. he has oil leaking out of the turbo, and needs some advice on what to do.

ive been telling him for the longest time that there was something wrong and like usual he dosent trust my advice. so now that someone he paid tells him its wrong i get to rub it in (I TOLD YOU SO) its great.

the shop that he is getting it worked at are telling him that they can just throw new seals in and it will be fine. well i told him dont ------ believe that, that he needs a turbo shop to rebuild it or to get a new turbo.

anyways, im just looking for advice on which direction to point him in, as in a good place to get a new turbo, a good shop to rebuild his old one ( near fort collins, CO), ect. ect. ect.

any advice from you guys would be appreciated.

well from what ive heard the 7.3 are the best ones, its when ford tried to make a diesel that it went downhill. what leaks on the turbo?

and i dont think that he needs to remove the motor for a leaky turbo??? if you could explain why that comment applies?

the truck runs fine, its just a turbo problem i believe, anyways he is going to have it checked out and if it needs a new turbo he said he is going to upgrade to the new garrett ball bearing one. i dont know if thats the best route but he is set on it.

the 7.3 is a good motor but its made by the same people that make the 6.0l and the 6.4 so no ford didn't start making thier own and ---- up.

so having to take the cab off to replace the motor

that makes it a bad motor?????

seems like that is a bad vehicle design???

Re: diesel people, i need some advice nsfw

cab is designed to come off, it whips off like ---- all but you do need a 2 post hoist.

your right i was misinformed.

and im still waiting for complex to explain how the design of the cab affects the motor itself.

people hate on the 6.0l but if your not an idiot it really is a good motor, the more people learn about it the more power/reliability it has gotten. Head studs and updated gaskets do wonders, minws getting those in the spring and retuned :P

well thats the beauty of it. he is going to do all this work and then when he doesnt need the truck for plowing anymore, im going to buy it! sweet.

Saw a cool sticker once, I'd rather be cumming than stroking! BTW refer to line #3 in my sig, despite their lesbian hyjinx.

There are lots of places that deal just with diesel turbos. Garrett actually makes most of its money from the diesel side of things, gasoline turbos are just a 'me too' side-business for them. The seals in newer journal bearing turbos are typically piston-style, and to get at them you remove the comp wheel. That almost necesitates a rebalance, and its nothing even close to balancing a mower blade. :1

He could also get a new snail, as said turbo places usually just treat them like another part of the eninge and offer a decent core exchange.

BTW you truck people sound like girls arguing over which Backstreet Boy is hotter. "OMG Joey is sooo hotter than Lance!"

Re: diesel people, i need some advice nsfw

Make sure it is the turbo that is actually leaking the oil. I have had the little o-ring below the pedestal go causing oil to puddle up seemingly from no where at the back of the engine, and I thought it was the turbo. I have also had the HPOP go, and cause an oil leak that looked like the turbo. I like the 7.3's and the 6.0's, they just cost way more $$$/hp then anybody else.

if you look at the engine bay of a 1980+ f150 with a big block, compair it to a 7.3.

a mustang fastback with a 460 has more room to work on in there.

Re: diesel people, i need some advice nsfw

there are a few diesel shops around that area. pfi speed might even be able to help him out. the 6.0l who wants to tear into their truck after they buy it for reliability, there are a lot of small things that go wrong with them too. i'd take a 12 valve cummins anyday :D

Ugh all current NA ford diesels = International Harvestor = Ford (until they dropped their own company and sued them over how bad all their engines are early last year.)
They're both piles of trash. The 6.0's major problem is that it has the worst OEM turbo this side of any non-industrial MHI POS.

7.3's leak and they're old and old engines leak anyway. Have the turbo rebuilt. Atleast he doesn't have a 6.0. He'd be shelling out $1200 for a new turbo every other year if he actually uses that truck.

still has nothing to do with the motor itself.
