Detonations problems, need help please!
Hi, I have a problem with detonations on my ZC SOCH Vtec engine... I recently installed a Jacksonracing supercharger kit (don't flame me pleaaaaase :-\) with a 6psi pulley... everything looked great, until I went for a test drive...
as soon as I hit the floor with the gaz pedal, it detonates a hell of a lot... so here's what I did yet to try to fix it... if anyone has other suggestions please help me im kinda confused here, cause they say the Jacksonracing kit is supposed to be bolt on (or so): the kit wasn't working with the FMU they provide, so I installed a VAFCII with 450cc 1g injectors... I made sure it never ran lean with a A/F gauge (well, dide my best since it's not the most precise gauge in the world) I put some 94octane gaz in the tank I checked if their were any vacuum lost (none) I retarded the timing to the maximum possible even tryed to cutt the VTEC engagement to see if that was the problem... still detonates anyone got some other ideas? it's not only a few little noise that I hear... it definitly DETONATES :'( can my timing be too retarded and make it detonate? (ive tryed it in many positions and the best seamed to be when it was retarted to the max?:S) i've also read that adding colder spark plugs could help, could it be THE problem? anyways... thanks! thanks y'all |
Re: Detonations problems, need help please!
your timing could be retarded too much and your vafc settings could be way off also. i hate to say it, but just guessing with an afc according to your a/f gauge, and retarding the timing all the way, isn't a good/safe combination and is just asking for trouble :-\ what are the settings on the afc? did you set your timing with the afc set at '0' or with the corrections already made with the afc?

Re: Detonations problems, need help please!
get some colder plugs then start over again with the afc..........retarding it that much isn't the greatest idea

Re: Detonations problems, need help please!
If I'm not mistaken, the JRSC leaves the Map sensor in the stock location on the TB, so it's not seeing boost....
That could be part of it. Also, where did you have the fmu hooked up? before or after the blower? |

Re: Detonations problems, need help please!
I took the FMU off... it ran like crap when it was on... im running on VAFC and 450s now...
anyone know what % of fuel I should make the 450 send at a 6psi boost? where should I start trying ? |
Re: Detonations problems, need help please!
thinking to myself.... when I look at the pressure lecture on my VAFc, it,s always around the -12 -10 or so... never gets positive, is this what you mean? should it get at +6 when Im boosting?
(I don,t know much about engines and all, sorry about it) |
Re: Detonations problems, need help please!
When you are driving at full throttle, the pressure reading never gets to be positive? It should at least get close to zero, not staying around -10, even if the car isn't boosted at all. Something might be wrong with the map sensor I suppose if the reading never comes up when you are driving. And you do not want the FMU and afc on at the same time, so taking that off was a good call. The afc for 450 injectors should be set to somewhere around -38 just for starters.

Re: Detonations problems, need help please!
I just checked, it gets to something like -1... but sure never comes positive...

Re: Detonations problems, need help please!
Then my guess is you have a leak where the supercharger is connected. Or the unit itself is faulty. Or you have a check valve or something installed that is causing the MAP to not see the boost. First three things that come to me. And without seeing your setup the third sounds the most likely. Because if it wasn't building boost because of a leak, it shouldn't be detonating, it should just be running stock. And if the sc itself were broken you'd probably be able to tell by looking under the hood/listening while it was running.

Re: Detonations problems, need help please!
I am not 100 percent sure how they work. But doesn't the supercharger kits come with a map diffuser or something that keeps it from seeing boost in the first place.

Re: Detonations problems, need help please!
what are you using for an exhaust? A pinched off or insufficient exaust will make you ping to kingdom come

Re: Detonations problems, need help please!
I didn't touch any sensor when I removed the FMU, all I did was take it off....

I still have stock exhaust system (like 1"and 3/4 or so, don't know?) , with a 4-2-1 headers ... can that be my problem? 2" 1/2 is going to be installed next week by the way, it was already on the "to do" things :-\ |
Re: Detonations problems, need help please!
look into good ignition components too. how old are your spark plug wires?

Re: Detonations problems, need help please!
changed the spark plugs yesterday for NGK G-power (or something... excuse me cuz im drunk atm!) colder spark plugs... didn't solve the problem!
vive le francaiiiiiis ca s'écrit tellement mieux quand on est saoul estie :| dont ask what that was ;D |
