detonation and no boost
i put my turbo on about two weeks ago and can't seem to get any boost above 2psi and i'm running really rich. i've checked my charge pipes for leaks but didn't find any. could the intake side of turbo be restricting airflow? i'm using a cut short ram intake and filter with reducers to fit the turbo. if the filter was dirty would that make this big of a differance? today when i turned my car off after it sat i heard like a popping sound coming from the engine, is that detonation? could that be because it's running too rich?

correct me if I'm wrong(somebody)...but I think detonation occurs when ur running too lean, running rich affects(in a bad way) performance...I've never had detonation so I couldn't tell you what it sounds like, but I think(??) it happens when your car is running...

It is your car cooling down, not detonation. Detonation only happens when the car is running. It is due to running lean, high compression, advanced timing, poor cooling, or some combination. Can't happen if the car is off.

it doesn't sound like the normal pinging that happens when you turn the engine off, it's more like a loud crack every so often. just doesn't sound good.
do you think i should try and find a differant filter for it? i want to find a filter with a smaller ID so it will fit my 2 1/2 inch pipes and i can get rid of the 3 inch pipe going to the 2 1/2.
anybody have any suggestions on the no boost problem? i tried using a MBC and it doesn't change anything.

hey guys i have the same engine as him and when my car is off i hear more than just the regular "ping" noise from exhaust, i hear a more like a "crack", comes from valve cover and engine area.. is it because the turbo makes the engine hotter thus making the metal heat up and contract more strongly? it seriously sounds like a crack but nothings bad happened... knock on wood
