DETONATION!!!
Ok i need to know the most logical ways to prevent detonation like retarding timing, colder plugs, Thick head gasget, and any suggestions you all may have. Also id like to know the best places to shop for plugs and such?
I got a stock b16a1 w/ a t25 im goin for like 6-8 psi. |
Re:DETONATION!!!
stock compression in that motor is relatively low, to minimize detonation, either run a ems (engine management system)or alot of fuel and an ignitionsystem with retard. I see no need for satcking head gaskets for 6-8psi. Have heard many people run up to 11 on stock internals and bottom end with stock honda head gasket. Get a zdyne unless you have obd2

Re:DETONATION!!!
Where can you get a zydyne and how much do they run?

Re:DETONATION!!!
zdyne.com about 900-1000 well worth it though. There also companies like efi systems or aem that aso make the same basic product.

Re:DETONATION!!!
For a OBDII guy like myself i assume for 9 psi or less my best option is still FMU + fuel pump.

Re:DETONATION!!!
Thw compresion on that motor is 10.2 to 1 I think so it's not that low but if you retard the timing, run a colder plug, and use a fmu or vafc to tune you should be good. Of course keep an eye on the air fuel ratio.

Re:DETONATION!!!
i believe u can get a obd2 to obd1 conversion harness..

Re:DETONATION!!!
I agree with everyone. Get a zdyne and convert it to OBD 1.

Re:DETONATION!!!
Don't rely on an a/f gauge to give you accurate enough readings.. Get out that service manual and use the blue wire trick to monitor your oxygen sensor.
Get adjustable cam gears as well, this will allow you to retard your timing quite a bit and may end up saving you a new motor. Don't be afraid to run a little to much gas, just make sure you're not spitting out fireballs in the exhaust :) And you'll know the second you start detonating, the engine will start pining/knocking and immediately get it fixed! |
