DEAD Thread - catch can
 

Ok after a ---- load of threads, Ive seen how most people run their oil catch can's but what I want to know is since this a turbo website, if you have a turbo on your engine/car Just to get an overall perspective or percentage...Are you running an oil catch can?

All you have to say is if you are or if you are not, I just want to get a perspective/percentage on how many people actually do have one on their turbocharged engine setup.



One reason I want to know who all has one is because I read in honda-tech that if you boost under 7 pounds then the stock configuration on the PCV valve will work, just needs to be replaced every so often.

That is total BS. As soon as the PCV valve sees boost it shuts...makin pressure in the crankcase. :3

and yes I run one.

if you sat there and actually thought about how a pcv valve works, you'd realize that whoever on ht told you that you don't need a catch can is a fuckwad. just make one. 20 bucks at home depot and you got urself a nice little catch can setup

take the things you hear from HT with a grain of salt.

just exactly do YOU think a catch can is? the air through the can still has to go out the other side SOMEWHERE. how many people run PCV valves AND catch cans?

Yeah the pressure from the crankcase has to go somewhere, Well to hell with this thread, Im running mine stock pcv valve to oil catch can to pre turbo intake (I blocked the port off on the mani)

i was running a oil catch can on my turbo at 7 psi. i took it off tonight but i think im going to be keeping my catch can even tho im not going to have a turbo becuase i heard you have to have one at races.

i bought one on ebay for 17 shipped. +2 bucks for steel wool. :)

you got a picture of it , doesnt matter if its on ur car or not...You use the thick steel wool or the thinner stuff?

One more question , do you run your line thats supposed to go into the pretubo intake to the atmosphere or not?

Here's a link to the item. I expected it to be cheaply made, and it was. The inlets and oulets are right next to eachother...so I attached some tubing and ran it down 1/2 way so that air would go to the bottom of the can ...and then go back up through the top....passing through the steel wool i stuffed in there.

It also leaked..so I got just took off the fittings and dabbed some gasket sealant in....and now it works swell. Total spent: 22 (17 for can, 2 for steel wool, 2 for liquid gasket, and 1 for some tubing.

And I'm not turbo yet, still looking for a t3 or t3/t4....so I ran the preturbo intake line to the PCV inlet on the intake manifold. Once I i go turbo I will run it to the turbo intake.

You need suction from your motor to pull the blow by out of the block. It won't work if you have it just chillin there in the atmosphere.

Alright thanks, I actually thought about buying one of those pieces and figured that the inlet and outlet were way to close for the air to even filter, If I were you though I wouldnt go down that far with the tubes because the oil might accumulate and suck it up eventually if you dont keep track on it. Anyways I might get a greddy can over the weekend froma friend parting out his car stuff...Im just low on the money part, sucks being a student.
