Damnit, boost sucks. Help Me

Well, first my radiator got a nice size crack in the top endtank so Jb weld to the rescue. Fixed it for a few weeks but now I've got turbo power and it cracked again in another spot. Tryed to jb weld (worked for 2 days) then starts leaking again, I'm scared I've got a headgasket leak and thats why it keeps cracking. Theres no oil in the coolant and no coolant in the oil though.

I'm kinda scared to buy a new radiator and then that one starts cracking. What should I do? I'm going to torque the headbolts down real good tonight to see if that might be the problem.

Thanks for reading.

Get rid of that stock plastic piece of ---- and get a metal radiator. I picked one up a couple years ago from 1800radiators and I am very happy with it. I had the same issue that you're having with the plastic one. I patched it probalby 6-7 times before I finally said ---- it and bought a metal one.

how much was it? I've seen some all aluminum radiator for like 225 shipped on some website. is this a pretty good deal?

1800radiators.com is a wierd site... seems like a real person is talking with you, but could be just a bot. heh

Re:Radiator keeps cracking.

I paid $100 shipped for a 3 core metal radiator. It's not aluminum though. I might have gotten it from them on ebay. I think they're cheaper there if they still sell em that way.

What car is the radiator you're playing with from?

Re:Radiator keeps cracking.

dont retorque your bolts. make sure the line to your overflow tank is free of debree. mines got clogged and i kept poping hoses and cracked the rad once. just a thought.

Re:Radiator keeps cracking.

It's weird cause my overflow tank cracked too! Even if I put water in the overflow, it doesn't go into the radiator like it's supposed to, would that be the radiator cap?

it's the stock crx radiator. Don't know if it's the original but it's a stock one. I'm thinking it might be the headgasket cause when I go into boost the car bogs really bad (I am hoping that this is just the chip that I'm using and my usb burner should be here shortly) , but mabye I'm getting headlift or the headgasket is blown and that is causing it to bog. any info appreciated

I cracked 2, stock plastic ones, one from my dx, and one from an std, the std one was smaller. Then I got lucky and found a metal one, 3 row, on a crx, got it for $50, and have not had a problem ever since.

it's just the top and bottom that's plastic, buy a five gallon tub of jbweld and totally encapsulate the plastic parts... hell, get the economy sized 50 gallon drum and build a new friggin radiator. Pimp that jbweld like you're slinging rock.

i agree, buying a metal radiator isnt the answer, you shouldnt be cracking stock rad caps.

aint normal

Re:Radiator keeps cracking.

It's not the radiator cap that's cracking its the overflow tank and the radiator endtanks. I went to torque the headbolts when I realized that on a zc you have to take out the freakin cams just to get to the bolts. That sucks.

Carnesd 05-20-2004 11:09 PM

Re:Radiator keeps cracking.

btw, how hard is it to take out the cams? can I just line it up with tdc and take off the bolts and little metal pieces that hold the cams in place, or is there some special ---- i gotta do?

Re:Radiator keeps cracking. (Update)

Ok, well I just got the chip in with the basemaps on it. But my car still bogs/misses under boost, or hard accelaration. If I try to give it more than part throttle it bogs and bucks back and forth. Sometimes it will go into boost and I can hold it there but it's slow, it's faster if I hold it a 0 vac. I tried changing plug wires and I'm going to check the plugs tommorrow. What else should I check? Would a loose charge pipe coupling make it do this?

It sucks cause I've got all the cool sounds of a turbo and no go!! I'm a ricer!!!!!!!!! Please Help me!

Heh, if you order from 1800radiators enter this code for 25 dollars off the purchase, 40310. I asked it if I was talking to a person and it said "No! but heres 25 dollars off for figuring it out." Youre welcome. :)

check ur gap on ur spark plugs and check timing.. same ---- happend to me.. and about the rad.. try bleeding it.. i also had this problem.. except my car would over heat..

Carnesd 05-25-2004 12:40 PM

Re:Damnit, boost sucks. Help Me

I looked at the spark plugs, they are kinda dark colored, they don't look bad. I don't have a timing light so I couldn't check my timing so I retarded the timing all the way at the distributer and the car would hardly run. Then I advanced it all the way and took it out and it ran a little bit better, guess i'll need to get a timing light.

How do you set the timing on a zc? There are no markings on the timing belt cover to let you know whether to advance it or retard it. Thanks
