damn, cant get the turbo mounted..wastegate is getting in the way!!!!!

how do i fix this? :( the wastegate is hitting the block, and preventing me from mounting the turbo and manifold on... i have a t3 off a saab internally wastegated...what would I have too do too run an external wastegate? or could I somehow move the internal wastegate??

Hey Goldberg. I had the same problem, but it was only hitting the "rivet" in the block and squeeeezed right past it. If I were you, I wouldn't use an external, but just move the one you got. It's not complicated, but I'm sorry to hear about that.

To move the turbo out of the way, loosen the bolts on the compressor housing and the exhaust housing and you should be able to rotate the outer parts of the turbo to clear the block. I had to do quite a bit of rotating to get mine to fit and the compressor outlet still turned out facing a stupid direction. Just make sure the oil return is still somewhat facing down.

i figured out how too move the turbine..but how do i move the wastegate???????? it has that stupid arm which prevents me from moving it ???

Re:damn, cant get the turbo mounted..wastegate is getting in the way!!!!!

Huh??? ???
If you moved the turbine, you should have mived the wastegate with it. You have to move both sides of the turbo to get it to line up right with the wastegate arm.

Is it hitting the actual block? What car do you have? I have a 92 civic and I used a saab 900 turbo t3 style, and I had to cut a chunk out of my AC braket for it to clear and bolt up. I was shitting when it was not fitting. >:( But I cut the chunk out and it was fine. Dont know if this is the same problem.

I got a 99 D16Y8 in my car BTW

Re:damn, cant get the turbo mounted..wastegate is getting in the way!!!!!

how exactly do you grind the block anyway???and what do you know is grindable, and what is important, and not too grind?

turbohf 03-27-2003 05:51 AM

Re:damn, cant get the turbo mounted..wastegate is getting in the way!!!!!

if you start grinding and green stuff or oilly ---- comes out of the spot your grinding it was important and you shouldnt have been grinding there ::)

but seriously, can you take a pic of the spot that is in question?

Re:damn, cant get the turbo mounted..wastegate is getting in the way!!!!!

you can grind about anywhere on the front of the block about 2 mm however if youve never done it i wouldn't tell you to do it.

as they said try and post some pics and a detailed pic of where its hitting and rubbing at.

u "might"be able to actually grind the wastegate head down.

Re:damn, cant get the turbo mounted..wastegate is getting in the way!!!!!

dam that sucks i had the same stupid problems with my t3. i grinded a bit of the block and rotated the inlet housing on the turbo. and for the wastgate i actually bent the plate that attaches to the housing. so instead of the wasgate sitting perpendicular to the block it sits at an angle.the angle in the pic is more than what i actually did but you get the point. i made a pic on paint but i cant host it anywhere. ill email it to you.

anybody want to host my funny looking pic?

renr send it to me email. shortyz@teamsynthetik.com

also u can grind out all the webbing, but i dont see why u cant rotate both , or then is the outlet in the wrong spot?

i know what he is talking about, there is a threaded hole/mountain ::) on the front of the block fo extra support of the stock exhaust manifold or something. just grind that fucker off...

LOL, don't grind on your blocks. All you have to do is cut and bolt the actuator a small piece of angle iron( I used a small piece of angle aluminum) then bolted the bracket and actuator to the ac bracket. You will have to weld an extension to the actuator rod.
I can email you a pic if you want.
