d16z6 turbo needs...

hey i have a d16z6 that recently broke piston rods.
now i want to change them to turbo pistons and turbo my engine.
I already know what i need for the turbo, but i need to know weather i need to machiene the block and heads and change the crank shaft as well as the cam shaft.
I also know that doing those things will give me more power, but are they necesarry?

will i blow my engine without a turbo crank shaft, machiened block and heads.

also this is my dailey.

thanks.

Fresh hone would be nice, but man you have got to be more specific and clarify your thoughts. Turbo crankshaft is a new one to me. ::) If you want a cheap build just go with a freshly honed block and a nice set of Vitara's on TunerToys rods. That's a suggestion for a mild build, but I'm missing your true question(s). You don't need a new crank/camshaft.

thanks JP.

my engine f***ed up on the freeway and wont run anymore. my friend said that the piston rods were broken. and i wanted to swap the engine but i decided to change the pistons and turbo it for some more power.

i need this car to be reliable, so im not looking for too much power just maybe 250-300 would be great.

until i have enough money to work some more on it.

do i need to machiene the head?

You have alot of research ahead of you. Are you sure you snapped rods? If so, your current block/head is pretty much toast, and I would credit n/a rod snapage to user idiocy. On average a stock d16 boosted can take around 200hp before breaking ringlands and other things. If the motor's ever been overheated, I would suggest checking the head for warpage and having the block decked. D-series have a tendency to sink sleeves a hair when they've been overheated, and can cause headgasket problems down the road.

Don't let anyone try to sell you an Eagle crank for a Honda. It's a huge waste of time and will potentially cause more harm than good. Honda cranks come balanced well from the factory. Turbo cranks ::)

Crosscheck the head with a straight-edge as well as the block's deck to make sure there is no warpage. It sounds like it may be something as small as ringlands or rod bearings. Either way, tear it apart and make sure surfaces are flush and level then inspect HOW much damage is done. My guess is that a hone will suffice and you just blew some ringlands or something minute. At that point like stated above take time to read up and learn about a mild D-Series build. TunerToys rods and Vitaras should be perfect for your horsepower expectations.

Re: d16z6 turbo needs...

ever since i bought this car a couple months back it has been burning oil. i filled the oil when it got low, however even when the oil was low it never over heated. when i turn on the engine it starts but doesn't idle. when i start the engine and rev it it runs but makes this horrible sound like one of the rods is loose or beoken. If these simptoms are familiar to anyone please help.

and what do you guys think of the $800 turbo kits from ebay?

Mostly junk. Besides, from the sounds of it you're going to need that $800 for a new motor. :P
