d16z6 turbo build
ok so im looking at turboin my d16z6 im getting for free from a buddy after i rebuild it with a rebuild kit and i am wondering what boost can i run without getting to deep into this at the start. i have a to3/to4 turbo i had from a old ls/vtec project. i dont want to build internals or nothing major to this motor besides adding the turbo. i have done a lot of research on this and have yet to find a real straight answer. i know stock internals you can run 200whp but that needs extras. im using this motor as a daily driver so nothing over the top and i dont want to hear about b18s or any other swap. just need help to find a lvl of boost that wont need all kinds of extras to run.
i got no problem getting a wastegate bov piping and maybe injectors as i have a walbro sitting around but thats already getting a little far.

ran 16-18 psi on a stock block and head z6 it threw a rod threw the front and one threw the back of the block after 2 years of hard daily beatings, had 550cc injectors(cost 50 bucks) and a 150 dollars chrome tune. there was a awd ef hatch that epic tuning threw together using the drive system out of a wagovan that they said made 400+hp with headstuds, injectors, fuel pump and tune. i think it took a dump after 40 some launches or something i read about it a long time ago. o and ours was making well over 200whp

keep the boost at 10 psi or less for a stock bottom end. anymore than that will drastically decrease reliability unless you prefer to rebuild your engine every few months. also the biggest part of reliability and power is the tune. with out a proper tune you have a bomb no matter what you do to it.

also depends on the compression numbers you get from the engine, if you do a leak down test that will give you a good indication if your engine is healthy or not. Depending on turbo size around 10 psi should be good. I'm running 10psi on a t25 d16y8 still running strong, making 190whp on 91 octane. I wouldn't go anything higher than 200whp if your looking for reliability/longevity. Oh yeah and a good tune is essential!
