d16y8, 14b @ 9psi, breaking up at high rpms

Hey guys,

I just put a 3" exhaust on my d16y8 14b setup. It would pull fine to red-line before the exhaust went on(as fine as a 9 psi 14b set-up would).

I did the exhaust this last week and got it put on today. At or above 6k in third gear (a little later in shorter gears) the power noticably fades and it sounds like it is misfiring. I have my plugs gapped to about .030". and I'm using dsm 450's and afc to tune it.

I want to like this car but I keep running into problems and I'm running out of patience. Let me know if you have any ideas. Thanks.

Nate

sounds like you may be running out of fuel in that range sounds to me like it is detinating :6

any time you change something like that you have to retune

I was at -35 ( on dsm 450's ) throughout the 5-7k range before the exhaust. I went to -30 from 5-7k and it didn't seem any better. I have a autometer pyrometer and it doesnt get above 1300*( the sensor is after the turbo) to redline in third gear.

I realize dsm 450's and the afc is not the best way to go about things. A chipped ecu, good injectors and a conversion harness will run around 400.00 but would obviously be a good investment.

I'll try adding more fuel at the top. Could the aging 450's be a problem?

Thanks for the help.

$400? ---- that.

You can get a chipped ECU on here for less than $100, use your 450's which are more than adequate, and get a conversion harness for like $40. That's what I sold one I had for.

could check the ignition system too, your engine grounded well? Mine would blow out spark because i didn't have the head ground strap connected. y7 with a 14b at 17 psi
