D16y7 manifold. Any suggestions?
 

I have a 99 civic (d16y7) turbo, a cheap t3 knock-off. 450 injectors, chrome, and I suck. By that
I mean I am new to this. I have been reading old posts on this forum and it is very informative. I have a log style manifold currently and it looks like a monkey welded it together. It had leaks all over the place. I re-welded it and fix them but it looks like ----. I was look at different styles and was curious if any experienced guys had a recommendations. This might sound weird but I like the cast Iron ones. They seem like they would last the longest. please help. Thanks, also I have a/c and need one that will permit me to keep it. I am planing to buy another d16 and build it for high boost any suggestions. so when this engine goes I have one ready. I was gonna go with wiseco 8.5-1 pistons. I am not interested in that vitara build. Any body have a bass ass dream list of how they would build such a engine. I want to run around 18 psi and i dont want any problems.

A s soon you're planning on going over 180-200 hp on a d series, you should consider aftermarket or at least stronger rods because they're the weakest link on these engines. And for manifolds; cast iron is the way to go because it should not crack and should spool up the turbine faster than header style manis although ,those should give you a few extra horses

Stock bottom end will handel 230hp with a GOOD tune. There is nothing wrong with the vitara's,they are fine to the point where you need to sleeve ur block. There are plenty of guys running 400hp+ on them. They work great with the fj i-beams. If you liketo have some slugs, they that works too, they can take detanation more than the vitara's, but you should have a tunner that is good enought not to have that very often. Cast mani are good, but they can crack, not often but they can. U can get a great mani from goautoworks.com, Greg will give you life time warrenty on all mani's. He has some for a/c so thats not a problem. If you are going to go high boost, then the log can be restrictive. Check out his mini ram and ramhorn, they are very nice pieces. I have the ramhorn and love it.

Thanks for the info gentlemen. I will go with a cast one. I will end up sleeving my block when I build I would like to run it 300 whp safely. I have a guy that tunes well here in yakima, wa. he and another guy have built some 400hp + hondas and one guy drives his to and from Cali as a commuter. He claims to still break 30 mpg as long as he doesnt boost too much. What is a good turbo to run for my current engine. I run 8 psi and the turbo has about 60k on it. I dont need anything fancy. I just need it to last about 30k or so. Until I build up the next motor. How can I prevent to mani from cracking? I assume hitting big puddles is no longer a good Idea.

is the mani your using right now ps or ac friendly? i got a 98 4 door with the y7 and im tryin to find the right manifold to keep it at least ac friendly

you dont need to sleeve the block unless you plan on making over 500hp. If you are, better get the check book ready, and lots of r&d. It is not needed at all for a 300 hp build. If you are worried about the mani cracking go to goautoworks and get one of his. If you can afford to sleeve the block then you should be able to get one of his mani's.....like I said he has life time warrenty on the mani's... If you are planing to run 300hp, you need to read up...it is possibly but you have to have the right combo of parts, and cash for them. The d will make some outstanding numbers, but you can just throw parts on it like a b-series. If I were you I would spend lots of time reading up and see what other guys are doing. Check out the d16 web boards, they will help you out tons.

Yes my current mani is ps and ac friendly. But I would not do you wrong buy selling you or even giving it to somebody. It was homemade and leaks. The original welds suck and it looks like hell. But you can find some for cheap online, I do believe most of the log style mani will work for your purpose.
